What's Happening in our Specialist Programs in Term 4

Performing Arts
What a term Term 3 was! Term 3 was full of excitement and energy in Performing Arts, from Year 5 exploring digital music, to Prep students working with rhythm and beat patterns, and of course our spectacular Year 6 musical, Aladdin Junior!
The fun doesn’t stop there, as Term 4 brings more wonderful musical opportunities while we continue to explore the topic of Music. We are especially looking forward to preparing our Christmas Carols to share with the school community in Week 10!
This term in Performing Arts, we will be learning about...
Prep
In Term 4, Prep students will continue learning the elements of music through the animals of the Magical Music Circus. This is also an extra special term, as they will rehearse and perform their very own Prep Concert in Week 7. 90’s Flashback will be packed with all the songs you know and love from the 90s! There’s no need to be Blue (Da Ba Dee), because Backstreet’s back, and MC Hammer is here to show you that we like to party!
Year 1
Year 1 students will continue to discover the elements of music through the Magical Music Circus. They will use a range of instruments and games to explore musical concepts, while listening to music from a variety of genres.
Year 2
Students in Year 2 will continue to build on their knowledge of the elements of music. They will extend their skills by using a range of instruments to play short compositions and strengthen their understanding of how to document music through rhythm patterns and notation.
Years 3 & 4
Students in Years 3 and 4 will keep working towards their learning goal of playing a pop song on the recorder, with their efforts culminating in a performance during the Week 4 open afternoon. Following this, they will begin a cultural music focus, exploring a range of global music styles.
Year 5
This term, Year 5 students will complete Musical 101! They will learn essential skills for their upcoming 2026 musical, including a brief history of musical theatre, how to begin decoding sheet music, audition tips and tricks, and choreography workshops. They will also have the exciting opportunity to vote on the musical of their choice!
Year 6
After their outstanding production of Aladdin Junior, Year 6 students will continue to deepen their understanding of music in Performing Arts. They will analyse some of their favourite songs, exploring both form and meaning. Students will then examine beat and rhythm to create their own music videos to match the songs. Please note that media from the Musical will be distributed to families during the Term, updates will be provided via Compass.
Christmas Carols
The whole school will dedicate time in Performing Arts lessons to learn, rehearse, and perform their year-level Christmas Carols, ready to share confidently in Week 10.
Parents who would love to be part of a Parents’ Choir are warmly invited to join. Please contact Brittany Pholi via beaumaris.ps@education.vic.gov.au. The plan is to hold a few after-school rehearsals during the term, with the choir performing one song at the carols event. If there is enough interest, further details will be shared.
I am looking forward to finishing the year with some incredible events.
Be good and be good at it!
