Faith News

This week, we take inspiration from Blessed Carlo Acutis, a teenager from Italy who has been called the “patron saint of the internet.” Carlo was an ordinary teenager who loved soccer, video games, and spending time with friends. But what set him apart was his extraordinary love for God and the Eucharist.

Carlo believed that the Eucharist was his “highway to heaven.” He attended Mass daily, prayed the Rosary, and encouraged others to see Jesus as their closest friend. He also used his computer skills to build a website cataloguing Eucharistic miracles from around the world, so that more people could discover the wonder of God’s presence with us.

Carlo passed away at just 15 years of age in 2006 from leukemia, but his deep faith continues to inspire young people and adults everywhere. Pope Francis has spoken about Carlo as a role model for today’s world, showing us that holiness is not about doing extraordinary things, but about living ordinary life with extraordinary love.

When I travelled to Assisi, I experienced firsthand the love and devotion people have for Carlo. Standing in prayer at his tomb was a deeply moving moment, and I prayed for our Sacred Heart community, asking Carlo to inspire our students to live their faith with joy and courage.

For us at Sacred Heart, Carlo is a reminder that faith is for everyone – no matter how young. He shows our students that they too can use their talents and passions to serve others and to grow closer to God.  We will continue to teach our students that his life encourages us to embrace the values of faith, kindness, and creativity as we walk together on our journey of learning and discipleship.

St Carlo Acutis, pray for us.
