Live Parent Webinar: How You Can Support Your Child During Exams

Wednesday 17th September 6:30-7:30pm (AEST)

What's Happening in Year 10

Advisory sessions have had a strong focus on building communication and conversation skills, with activities linked to the Berry Street model encouraging students to practice positive interactions and strengthen their confidence in everyday conversations. Meanwhile, all Year 10 students have continued working diligently to secure and finalise their work experience placements, whether embarking on their very first placement or preparing for their last — an important step in exploring future career possibilities.

We also today, have a number of students travelling to the Birchip Cropping Group Field Day, giving them firsthand exposure to the agricultural sector and the innovations driving local industry.

Year 10 Food Technology

Year 10’s has continued to work on their food truck task, and cooked Singapore Noodles this week.

Year 10 Health

As a part of the Year 10 Health curriculum, students have the opportunity to participate in the ‘Baby Think It Over’ Program, using computerised infant simulators whose cry replicates that of an infant. This week our Year 10’s started their parent, Journey!

Careers Education Nursing and Midwifery Guest Speaker Montana Montana Gartside – La Trobe University

We were absolutely inspired to welcome Montana, a local Bendigo student currently completing her Nursing and Midwifery degree, to speak with our 9, 10, 11 and 12 students. Montana’s energy and passion were completely contagious—especially considering she had just delivered a baby the night before! From the very first moment, it was clear that she loves what she does and believes deeply in the impact she can make.

Montana gave students an honest and engaging insight into what it takes to study and work in nursing and midwifery. She shared the different pathways into the career, what a typical day looks like, and the real-life challenges and rewards of working in healthcare. She spoke passionately about the urgent need for nurses, particularly those who advocate for women’s health—highlighting that in many parts of the world, women often have no voice or support for their healthcare needs.

Looking ahead, Montana shared her exciting goals: she hopes to spend time in Africa, where maternal health is in critical need, while also returning to rural communities in Australia to work as a visiting nurse/midwife, improving access and continuity of care. It was inspiring to see how her career path is not just about personal success, but about creating lasting, meaningful change for communities both near and far.

Montana’s story reminded us that passion, perseverance, and focus can create extraordinary opportunities. For our students, it was a powerful example of how choosing a career path you love, and committing fully to it, can lead to real-world impact, adventure, and the chance to make a difference in people’s lives. We thank Montana for taking the time to share her journey, her insights, and her incredible enthusiasm—it was a talk that will stay with our students for a long time. A special thanks to Julie and Mary-Anne Sait for helping us to organise this guest speaker—your support made this inspiring visit possible.

VCE VM Café

On Tuesday, 9 September, our VCE VM Work-Related Skills (WRS) and Personal Development Skills (PDS) students wrapped up their fourth and final Café Day for the year.

Across the four events, students took on responsibility for all aspects of running the café — preparing snacks, making coffee, handling transactions, setting up and packing down, and providing excellent customer service. They also coordinated a kid’s corner and organised activities in the stadium to engage the customers.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to support the students. These Café Days have provided a fantastic opportunity for them to apply their skills in a real-world setting, and they should be proud of what they have achieved.

VCE VM Money Matters: Why Financial Literacy is More Important Than Ever

We would like to thank Joanne Parker from Anglicare for her time speaking to our students today about the importance of financial literacy. In a world where tap-and-go purchases, online shopping, and buy-now-pay-later schemes have become second nature, financial literacy has never been more crucial. From teenagers saving their first pay cheque to adults managing mortgages and retirement funds, understanding money management is a skill that shapes lifelong security and independence.

Financial literacy is more than knowing how to add up receipts—it’s about developing the confidence and knowledge to make smart financial decisions. Key areas include budgeting, saving, investing, understanding credit, and recognising the risks of debt. A strong grasp of these skills allows individuals to avoid common pitfalls, such as relying on high-interest loans, overspending, or failing to prepare for unexpected costs.

A recent survey revealed that many Australians struggle with everyday financial concepts. For example, one in three adults admits they would not be able to cover a $1,000 emergency expense without borrowing. Experts argue that financial education should be viewed as essential as learning to read and write. “If people can understand how interest works, how to build savings, and how to plan for the future, they’re far less likely to face financial stress,” says financial adviser Sarah Johnson.

Joanne's presentation empowers young people to take control of their money before stepping into the workforce. Financial literacy isn’t about being wealthy—it’s about being prepared. With the right tools and knowledge, anyone can make their money work smarter and build a secure foundation for the future.

Year 11 and 12 Geography

Michael has started working on his Unit 2 fieldwork, assessing tourism in the Grampians National Park using a variety of secondary data. He will travel to the area in Term 4 to collect primary data, to inform his assessment.

Joe is finishing off the second of two case studies that he has used to investigate issues and challenges associated with a growing population in Niger and an ageing population in Germany.
