Mr. Ryan's Report

Week 8! It seems as though we only just started Term 3 but here we are.

Today the Year 9 students will visit the BCG Main Field Day. This will be a great opportunity for all students to gain some knowledge of the industry and get an insight into the career opportunities discussed at the program.

Students in Years 7 - 9 have been busy in advisory designing and creating their Myalla pages with some great design ideas being seen from all the groups. We are looking forward to seeing the finished products.

A reminder that next week the Year 9 students will be attending their three-day Grampians Camp. Students will head off Monday morning to begin their hiking trek and will be back ready for a good sleep in their own bed Wednesday.

What's happening in Year 9?

Art

Students are embarking on a new unit focused on mixed media street photography. For their final projects, due late Term 4, they will creatively apply these techniques onto wooden panels.

English

Students are now composing personal response essays reflecting deeply on the Holocaust unit, where they studied powerful memoirs, diaries, and poetry that bring to life the experiences of that time.

Science

The Year 9 science class has seen some growth in the past few weeks, plant growth that is. Students have been investigating the effect that different factors have on plant growth. Does sand or soil allow a seed to grow better? Will pre-workout make a difference to a plants growth? Will a plant in darkness grow at a slower rate that a plant outside in the sun? These were all questions that were answered in our classroom.

Health and Physical Education

In Health and PE this week, the Year 9s have been preparing for camp. They have been putting together meal plans, packing their bags, and setting up tents. The students were set the challenge of setting up and packing up a four-person tent all on their own, each student did very well, and we only had one broken zipper! We had a race with their hiking packs on carrying their tent to show how easily the weight in their bags can build up. All students seem very excited to get their steps in next week.
