Welcome to Spring this week! Well it did start with a gusty blast of wind.
UV (Sun Smart) Policy
With the start of Spring our UV (Sun Smart) policy kicks in. All students are now required to wear their hats out in the playground or anytime they are outside. Due to the high UV we really need to ensure that we protect the students. If students require sunscreen, then please apply at home before arriving at school. Students are permitted to bring sunscreen to school however, they need to be able to apply the sunscreen to themselves without the assistance of teachers.
Just Imagine….. School Production
It’s a massive week with school production. As I write my piece for Nokuna, the production has not happened yet but when you are reading this, it will have happened. I would like to thank Mrs Phillips, the cast, students, staff for their efforts. Rehearsals went incredibly well and I’m confident the performance would have been wonderful last night.
I had lots of fun myself working with the students making the highlights video and taking the photographs. I hope you have all had a wonderful night at production, enjoying the talents of your children.
Father’s Day Stall
On the weekend, it was Father’s Day! Hopefully, you celebrated the wonderful father figures in your life.
A huge thanks to the PFA who ran the annual stall so that our students had the opportunity to purchase lovely gifts. A big thank you to the parent volunteers who supported the PFA and our students to complete their shopping.
I would especially like to thank all our fabulous ‘father figures’ who are our dads, grandfathers, stepfathers, uncles and community members that continue to contribute to our school. Thank you! I really hope that all our families spent some quality time together to celebrate on the weekend! Happy Father’s Day!
Transition to Weeden Heights PS
Last week we welcomed our new students and parents to Weeden Heights for their first transition session. Each student was given a t-shirt promoting the school in their first session so it was wonderful to see them arrive in them last week. The kinder students had a terrific session with Mrs Michalski and got to work from room 2 while their parents had a session with me on developing fine motor skills. We look forward to the next session on Wednesday 22 October.
Good luck at Hoop time and the District Athletics
It is a super busy and sporty week for the students at Weeden Heights PS. Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to score, coach and manage all the basketball teams so that all our students can compete. I’m crossing my fingers that everyone tries their hardest and demonstrates sportsmanship and school pride.
The District Athletics is on Friday. You are going to have some tired children on the weekend! It has been terrific to see the students refining their athletic techniques in their PE classes. Good luck to all of our students who are competing.
Annual Parent Survey
Thank you to the parents who have already participated in the annual DE parent survey. The last day to complete the survey is Friday 19 September. All families were sent a survey link via an email and I always offer the survey to all the Weeden Heights PS families as we value your opinion and thoughts. If you have a moment, we would greatly appreciate your input as the data does count towards .
Planning for 2026
Preparations for 2026 are well underway and my leadership team are considering exciting developments for the school. I continue to need your support so that the I can make the best decisions for the school.
If you intend leaving Weeden Heights and your children will be starting at another school next year, can you please let me know, in writing, so that we can make the necessary adjustments to our calculations.
Please do not leave it to the last minute to indicate your intentions as it does have a profound effect on the proposed budget. Having accurate student enrolments is critical in establishing a sound and balanced budget.
End of Term 3
The last day of term 3 is Friday 19 September and officially school will finish at 2.30pm. We will all be in our footy colours as our staff are running a footy day. Please remember that if you can’t pick your child up at 2.30pm then please book them in for OSHC in our hall.
Parents are of course welcome to attend the assembly that will commence at 2.10pm. There will be several end of term special awards and presentations.
Please take care, stay safe and enjoy your holiday break.
Until next time……
Principal
