Principal's Report
Principal's Report
As term 3 draws to a close, I reflect on our student and staff achievements, and the positive culture that I am fortunate to experience every day.
Our college focuses heavily on providing an orderly learning environment where our classrooms are calm, nurturing spaces and student learning thrives.
We set high expectations for success and strive to inspire our students to become independent lifelong learners, who go home a little more knowledgeable, a little more capable, and a little more confident, each day.
Our commitment to this vision is reflected in our student, staff, and parent perception survey data, which has demonstrated significant improvement in all areas of our shared culture of high expectations for students and staff, improving standards across the curriculum, and strong academic achievement.
NAPLAN growth from Year 7 to Year 9 was very strong, highlighting the great work of our students and staff, in partnership with the home.
Student abilities were once again showcased on Tuesday where students from year 7, 8, 9, and 10, collaborated for a continuous duration of 12 hours to write and animate a book in a day.
I was very impressed by their creativity, consideration for each other’s opinions, and illustrative skills. They were able to raise donations in the thousands for children’s cancer research, in recognition of their efforts.
Early in the term, the college held its Athletics carnival, and two weeks ago, almost 100 students represented the school at the division athletics, with several students progressing to state finals.
Those participating in the Swinburne Children’s University are finalising their community projects, whilst others are preparing for the Australian Business Council Network mentor program.
Last Friday, I had the pleasure of visiting our student team at Gnurad-Gundidj Campus, School for Student Leadership.
The students were happy and excited demonstrating significant growth in confidence as they presented their community leadership project titled "Scoresby Hydration Project".
Their proposal to raise funds to install bottled water fountains for students was well received, and I am pleased to advise that the first donation was deposited shortly after their presentation.
As year 12 students gear up for a holiday full of revision, coupled with brain breaks in preparation for their final exams; all students have access to the Knox Revision Program that will run from Monday 22 September to Wednesday 24 September.
To accompany this program, teachers will conduct a series of revision sessions to be held at school from Thursday 25 September to Thursday 2 October, along with a series of practise exams.
I wish all a very happy and safe holiday and look forward to celebrating the completion of the secondary schooling journey with our year 12 students and their families.
