Health and Physical Education (PE)
We have had another highly active and productive term in the PE and Health Domain.
Our term started with all students in Year 7 to 10 participating in an Athletics unit that led to them being fully prepared for our House Athletics Carnival.
Participation in this unit and on Athletics Day was at a record high, and students also reflected on their involvement in a Common Assessment Task.
Another benefit of this new approach was that we had over 60 students attend Inter School Athletics, which was our largest team in recent memory.
Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 spent the remainder of the term learning skills and game strategies in a wide range of invasion games.
The invasion games section of the curriculum includes sports like basketball, handball, netball, frisbee, hockey and all of the football codes.
One particular highlight has been the cross-age teaching provided by some of our Yr 11 Vocational Major students.
Lachlan Prince, Year 11 Lucas Nguyen, Year 11 and Baxter Johnson, Year 11 delivered a highly engaging American Football unit to 7C students, and are to be commended for their expertise, and dedication to helping others learn a new sport.
We also take this chance to commend the Year 10 cohort. Close to 100 percent of current Year 10 students are currently participating in one or more of our PE Electives. The Yr 10 students are highly engaged in ‘Mind Body and Soul’, ‘Sport Coaching’ or ‘Science of Sport’.
Our students also continue to engage productively in Health Education lessons and in the next newsletter we will articulate some specific highlights.
On reflection, the PE and Health Team is extremely proud of what students have achieved so far this year.
We look forward to term 4 (and the better weather that it will provide), as students take on a variety of fielding and striking games that will include sports like softball, cricket and golf.
