From the

Head of  Senior School

Dear BMGS Senior School Community,

The past fortnight has been a busy one in the Senior School as we run toward the end-of-term finish line. What has struck me most is the way our students, staff, and families have supported one another – whether it’s been through the pressure of exams, the joy of performance, or the camaraderie of the sporting field.

Academic Progress and Programs

For our Year 12 students, the Trial Examinations are now behind them. Staff have been working closely with them, offering feedback, tutorials, and encouragement as they prepare for the HSC. Major Works are also being finalised – a real milestone that reflects months of effort, creativity, and perseverance.

Year 11 have begun their End-of-Course Examinations, which mark the conclusion of their Preliminary year. For Year 10, subject selection has been an exciting step. It has been wonderful to see the range of interests and passions come through, and I am grateful to our staff and families who have supported students in making these important decisions.

Student Wellbeing

Alongside academics, wellbeing remains central to what we do. Exams naturally bring pressure, but the pastoral team, Deans of Students, Tutors and counsellors have been walking with students to help them find balance and perspective.

Our Year 12 students are beginning to look toward their Valedictory Dinner and Graduation Service. These will be special moments for our community to come together and celebrate their journey.

It has also been wonderful to see our new student leaders step into their roles with enthusiasm. They led their first House Meetings last week, and their energy and ideas are already making a positive impact. At the same time, fundraising initiatives have continued to bring students together around causes bigger than themselves – a reminder of the generosity and service that runs through our community.

Co-curricular and Enrichment

Over the past two weeks, there has been so much to celebrate beyond the classroom:

  • At Tournament of Minds, our students worked brilliantly in teams, impressing judges with their creativity, collaboration, and spirit.

  • In Debating, we welcomed Winmalee High School and St Columba’s. Our students not only debated strongly but also showed warmth and hospitality as hosts.

  • The Music Showcase and Drama performance evenings were highlights, giving students a chance to share their talents and passion with family, friends, and staff. These events remind us of the joy that comes from creative expression.

  • The winter sport season has now wrapped up. While there were some thrilling victories on the field and court, what stood out most was the sportsmanship, determination, and encouragement students showed each other week after week.

  • And of course, preparations are in full swing for the 45km Walk – a challenge that builds resilience, but also strengthens friendships and community bonds.

As we near the end of term, I am reminded again of the strength of our BMGS community.

Thank you to our staff for their tireless commitment, to our families for your encouragement and partnership, and to our students for the way you throw yourselves into every opportunity with such energy and spirit. Together, we’ll finish the term well – and I look forward to celebrating all that has been achieved.

Warm regards,
