Principal's Report

Preparing for 2026

As we head towards the end of Term 3, the school leadership team is in full swing in getting ready for the 2026 school year. Although this may seem early, it is typical for the majority of schools to complete most of their 'next year' planning in Term 3.  Just like in a football final, the 3rd Quarter is often referred to as the 'premiership quarter', which ultimately sets up either the team for success, much like schools do in Term 3.  Below is a list of just some of the tasks that we have been working on to ensure success for WPS:

  • Curriculum planning – Review and align programs with Victorian Curriculum 2.0 requirements, update units, and integrate new priorities, which include the Victorian Teaching & Learning Model (VTLM 2.0)
  • Assessment schedules – Map out key assessment tasks, reporting timelines, and data collection and analysis processes.
  • Professional learning – Plan staff learning, collaborative inquiries, and induction for any new teachers.
  • Complete end-of-year 2025 Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) review, then develop the 2026 AIP based on the new School Strategic Plan (SSP)
  • Class lists & groupings - we will communicate information about this process at the start of next term.
  • Transition programs – Support new students with orientation and supportive structures designed to ensure a smooth and positive transition
  • Support plans – Update Learner Profiles, Individual Education Plans (IEPs), Behaviour Support Plans, and all other Wellbeing Supports.
  • Staffing – Confirm teachers/education support staff, allocate roles (including leadership, curriculum, and support responsibilities).
  • Timetables – Begin initial plans, specialist programs, and teacher schedules.
  • Policies & procedures – Update staff and student handbooks, and check policy documentation.
  • Parent communication – Share start-of-year information, key dates, and expectations (including Graduation celebrations)
  • Partnerships – Strengthen links with local services, councils, and community groups.
  • Facilities – Complete improvement works, perform maintenance, safety checks, cleaning, and audits
  • Technology – Update devices/software, online subscriptions and BYOD program
  • Supplies – Auditing stationery, classroom materials, and specialist equipment.

Congratulations

I would like to congratulate the following staff who have been successful in being appointed to internal positions of responsibility: PLC & Curriculum Support, Ms Hope Cummins and PLC & Learner Agency / Dispositions, Ms Erin Short. These teachers will have some additional time allocated, which will allow them to work on their new portfolios. However, please be assured that both Ms Cummins and Ms Short will remain their classroom teachers and lead the Year 3/4 team and the Year 5 Team.
