PREP NEWS

Literacy
In Literacy, we have been practising reading, writing, and spelling CCVC words such as stop, flip, crab, trap, and swim. The children have also been enjoying lots of partner reading, which helps them practise their fluency and expression while supporting one another. We also took part in a fun and interactive writing task, where we began planning an adventure story about camping. To help us brainstorm, we matched words to pictures and worked in pairs—one partner read the word while the other ran to share the spelling. The excitement and energy made learning extra fun!
Mathematics
We have started a new unit on measurement, beginning with comparing objects in terms of length. We are using vocabulary such as longer, shorter, taller, and smaller. The students have loved comparing their own heights in class, as well as working in groups to compare the lengths of different familiar objects. This hands-on learning has given us lots of opportunities to practise describing and comparing using mathematical language.
Inquiry
Our Inquiry unit has had a strong focus on learning about different cultures. The children had a fantastic time participating in an African drumming incursion, where they explored rhythm, beats, and instruments from another culture. We have also been compiling everything we have learnt about cultures into class displays and celebrating the diversity within our own classroom community.
Assembly Reminder
We warmly invite families to attend our Prep Assembly on Friday 5th September from 3:00–3:30pm. We can’t wait to share our learning and celebrate together!
Warm regards,
The Prep Team
