Assistant Principal's Report

Week 7 of Term 3 2025

What a vibrant week it’s been at Box Hill North! After returning from a refreshing long service leave spent with family, I was welcomed back by the familiar buzz of energy, laughter, and learning that fills our kindergarten and school. This week has been a true celebration of community and growth, from honouring our incredible Early Childhood Educators, to empowering our staff through professional reflection, and seeing our Events Committee come together to host a fantastic Father’s Day Stall. Topping it all off, two of our inspiring Year 6 leaders used their voices to advocate for a brighter, better future for all!

The Victorian Principals Association's (VPA) 2025 Conference

Anna is currently attending the 2025 Victorian Principals Association (VPA) Conference, a dynamic gathering of educational leaders, innovators, and experts. Under the inspiring theme "Elevation: Shaping Futures," the conference explores how the principal class can elevate leadership, teaching, and learning across Victorian primary schools. Alongside fellow principals from across the state, Anna is engaging in critical conversations about the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of education. This theme reflects a shared commitment among Victorian school leaders to drive meaningful change and fostering innovation in order to create brighter futures for the next generation of learners.

Let’s Celebrate our Early Childhood Educators

This week, we proudly celebrated our amazing Early Childhood Educators! A massive thank you to our incredible Kindergarten team—Charlotte, Sharron, Jemma, Kelly, Amanda, Kristina, and Alex. Your passion, care, and dedication shine through every day, and we are so grateful for the joy you bring to our Kinder students and families.

From the moment anyone walks into our Kindergarten, the warmth, love, and laughter are unmistakable - a true testament to the strong, beautiful connections you've nurtured over the years with our three- and four-year-olds and their families.

Thanks to your energy, creativity, and heart, Box Hill North Kindergarten has become a standout in the wider community, known for its vibrant, nurturing program.

On behalf of the entire Box Hill North community - thank you for being the soul of our Kindergarten and for making every day magical for our youngest learners!

The 5/6’s at Hoop Time

On Monday all of our Year 5/6 students cohort and teachers went to Hoop Time. Hoop Time enables school students from across Victoria to come together for a single-day round robin tournament held at local basketball stadium. For us this was at the State Basketball Centre.

More details are further in the newsletter and some great photos of our students.

Father’s Day Stall

A huge thank you to our amazing Events Committee and dedicated parent volunteers for running this year’s Father’s Day Stall! Your time, effort, and enthusiasm made the event a wonderful success. Our students were so excited to choose thoughtful gifts and are now looking forward to celebrating and spoiling their dads or special people this weekend. Your support has helped create meaningful moments and lasting memories for families in our community. We truly appreciate the energy and care you put into making this event special, it wouldn’t have been possible without you. Thank you for making a difference!

REMINDER: Last minute Father's Day Stall OPEN TOMORROW!

We will be opening the Father's Day Stall tomorrow at lunchtime for any students who missed out on purchasing a Father's Day gift or would like to purchase something extra.  Please bring cash and a bag to for your purchases.

Young voices, big ideas: Junior Voicenaters help to shape the future of Whitehorse

We are incredibly proud of two of our Year 6 leaders, Felix and Rian, who have been boldly voicing their opinions and driving positive change within our community. Representing our school in Whitehorse’s Junior Voicenaters, Felix and Rian join 32 passionate primary students from 13 local schools in this dynamic Children’s Advisory Group. Meeting quarterly, these young leaders work directly with Whitehorse City Council staff, sharing fresh ideas and meaningful insights that influence real community projects.

The Junior Voicenaters play a powerful role in shaping child-friendly spaces and programs, from helping design innovative playgrounds to advising on kid-friendly initiatives at local facilities. But their impact goes far beyond project input—they are growing vital skills like leadership, public speaking, teamwork, and a deep understanding of local government. These experiences are building confident, thoughtful future leaders right here in our community.

Whitehorse’s commitment to embracing the voices of its youngest residents is truly inspiring. By valuing children’s perspectives, the city is enriching its projects and fostering a culture of inclusion, innovation, and lasting change. The Junior Voicenaters perfectly demonstrate how young voices can shape a brighter future for all.

We invite you to read on and hear from Felix and Rian themselves about their exciting journey representing Box Hill North and making a difference as part of Whitehorse’s Junior Voicenaters!

Riarn and Felix– A joint statement

“ Voicenators has really allowed our voices to be heard. We have been talking about recycling in Whitehorse and how it can be improved. By adding a glass recycling bin with a purple lid we will be able to reduce waste.

We were also talking about inclusiveness and how we can help support all people in our community feel included. This is important to us because all people’s voices should be heard and everyone should feel a member of the community.

We have really enjoyed meeting the other school leaders and making a change through the activities and discussion we had. Being able to make a change for our community has made us feel that our opinion matters and that we can make changes that will make Whitehorse a better place to live”.

Whitehorse Council has introduced a new purple-lidded bin specifically for glass recycling, separate from cardboard and other recyclables. Every household will now have four bins: the purple bin for glass, the green FOGO bin for food and garden waste, the red bin for general rubbish-like tissues and nappies, and the yellow bin for other recyclables. The red general waste bin will be collected every two weeks, while the green FOGO bin will be collected weekly. This new system improves recycling and helps protect the environment. We believe it’s important that everyone’s voice is heard to create a cleaner, better community.

Kind Regards,

Ainslie
