HOS The Net, Week 9, Term 3, 2025
As we head towards the final week of Term 3, we reflect upon the rewarding experiences we have had the privilege to celebrate in our community. Here are just a few highlights:
R U OK? Day This year, R U OK? Day spanned over a whole week, giving our community many opportunities to pause, reflect and connect with others. Students and staff engaged in activities that encouraged kindness, empathy, and meaningful conversations. It was wonderful to see everyone taking the time to check in with one another and strengthen our sense of care and belonging.
PJ Day for Social Outreach What a fun and meaningful day! Our students loved coming to school in their pyjamas, while also raising awareness and funds for those in need. It was a beautiful example of our school living out its commitment to social justice in a joyful and practical way.
Science Week Curiosity and creativity were on full display as students explored experiments, challenges, and hands-on investigations. There was a real buzz around the school as we celebrated the wonders of science and the joy of discovery.
Everyday Learning Beyond these special events, we have seen incredible growth in learning across all year levels this term. From literacy and numeracy achievements to creative arts, sport and faith formation, our students continue to amaze us with their dedication and enthusiasm.
Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership this term.
Together, we have created a vibrant and caring learning environment for our students.

The Net Kindergarten; Term 3, Week 9
English
Kindy has been busy becoming mini authors! They’ve planned and written lots of exciting narratives, each with its own orientation, problem, and solution. Now, our young storytellers are hard at work editing their many masterpieces, ready to share soon!
Mathematics
Kindergarten have been busy exploring the wonderful world of patterns! The children have been recognising, describing, and continuing repeating patterns in lots of different ways. They’ve had so much fun with hands-on, engaging activities while discovering how patterns can be found all around us.
Religion
Kindy have been learning all about Pentecost and the mystery of the Holy Spirit. Through stories, discussions, and creative activities, students explored how the Holy Spirit came to Jesus’ friends and how It continues to guide us today. Their curiosity and wonder have brought this special story to life!
Science - Visit to Golden Ridge Farm
Our Kindergarten crew had the best day at Golden Ridge Farm! We learnt so much about life on the farm while making lots of furry and feathered friends. The children giggled as they bottle-fed hungry lambs, gently held fluffy baby chicks and ducklings, and gave soft pats to the sweetest little rabbits. There were cuddles, squeals of delight, and plenty of “oohs” and “aahs” as we discovered just how soft a baby duck really is! It was a day full of learning, laughter, and memories we’ll cherish forever.
The Net Stage 1; Term 3, Week 9
English
This term, our Year 1 students have been busy building their persuasive writing skills. They have explored different ways to convince their readers, experimenting with techniques such as giving reasons, asking questions, and sharing their opinions. Students have loved putting these strategies into practice through fun and engaging writing activities.
Some samples of our amazing writers are below:
Mathematics
Over the past two weeks, Year 2 have been exploring measurement through a range of hands-on activities. We have been learning to measure and compare the length, area, volume, capacity, and mass of objects using informal units of measurement.
Length and Area: Students estimated, measured, and compared lengths and areas using informal units such as blocks and paddle pop sticks. They discovered that the same object can be measured in different ways depending on the unit chosen.
Volume, Capacity, and Mass: We also explored the size, weight, and space objects can hold. Students compared the mass of classroom items by hefting and using balance scales. They also discovered that size does not always determine mass. We measured capacity with either measuring cups or self-made block containers, and investigated volume using cubes.
These activities have helped students with better understanding of measurement, and practise choosing and using appropriate informal units.
Religion
This term in Religion, our Year 1 students have been deepening their understanding of the sacrament of Baptism, with a particular focus on the importance of belonging to a community and recognising that we are all part of God’s family. Students have also explored the life and example of Blessed Carlo Acutis, our newly canonised saint, learning how his love for the Eucharist and his use of technology to share his faith continue to inspire people around the world. We are pleased to share some of the meaningful work our students have produced throughout this learning.
In addition, we have engaged with the work of St Vincent de Paul, discovering how acts of generosity and donation can positively impact the lives of those in need.
Science Week
In Week 8, St Luke’s proudly joined the nationwide celebration of Science Week. This special week aims to inspire community participation in science and to highlight the significant contributions of Australian scientists. Each class from Kindergarten to Year 6 engaged in exciting STEM challenges during the afternoons.
Tinmen took on the Tallest Tower Challenge, where students were tasked with building the tallest possible tower using unifix cubes. This activity encouraged students to plan, design, and problem-solve creatively, while also working cooperatively as a team.
Take a look at the photos below to see some of our wonderful creations!
The Net Stage 2; Term 3, Week 9
English
In English, Stage 2 has been diving into exciting learning through reading and writing. Students have been practising strategies to monitor and clarify their reading by making predictions, asking questions, and working out the meaning of new words. These strategies are helping students become more confident and independent readers.
In Writing, the focus has been on persuasive texts. Students learnt how to structure their writing using the OREO method (Opinion, Reasons, Evidence, Opinion restated). They brainstormed fun and meaningful topics such as “Why students should play more sports” and “Why healthy food is better than junk food”. Together, they explored how to make their arguments stronger using powerful words, rhetorical questions, and clear reasons. It has been wonderful to see students growing in confidence as readers and writers, and proudly sharing their ideas with others.
Mathematics
This term, Stage 2 students are exploring the concept of length in mathematics. They are learning to estimate, measure, and compare lengths using both informal units (like paperclips or blocks) and formal units such as centimetres and metres. Students are developing their understanding of measurement by engaging in hands-on activities, solving real-world problems, and using rulers and tape measures accurately. These skills help them connect maths to everyday life and build confidence in using measurement in practical ways.
Religion
In Religion, Stage 2 students have been learning about mercy and forgiveness. They explored this through the story Molly and Mae, which showed how friends can make mistakes but repair their relationship by “building a bridge.” Students reflected on what words and actions can help us to forgive others and restore friendships.
They also took part in a “Mercy Walk,” where they engaged with pictures, videos, and songs showing people helping others in need. Using a See, Think, Wonder sheet, students reflected on how mercy and forgiveness can be shown in everyday life and how they can follow Jesus’ example through kindness, compassion, and care for others. Through discussions and sharing, they began to see how small acts of forgiveness can make a big difference in their friendships and communities.
Geography
In Stage 2 Geography, students have been investigating the significance of places and landmarks, as well as the relationships between people and their environments. Students have also been investigating Australia’s physical and human features, exploring connections with other countries, and considering ways people manage within different environments. Students are developing geographical skills through the use of maps, graphs and other tools, while engaging in inquiry-based learning to research, interpret and present information.
