Dear Families
Congratulations...!
... To our athletes who gave their all at Wednesday’s ACC A-Division Athletics Carnival where we came an impressive second place by just 31 points! Thank you to Jessica Pillera, Head of Sport, Darren Kowel, Assistant Head of Sport, and the Physical Education staff and coaches who supported the team to prepare so well for the day. Congratulations also to our Magis teams who competed in the State Semi-Finals of the British Parliamentary Debating Competition on Monday. We are excited to announce that we have two teams progressing to the State Final, which will be held on Monday. Well done to all performers at last night’s Year 8/9 Drama Night who wowed the audience with their engaging performance of Trackers. And, finally, all the best to our Netballers for tomorrow’s finals.
Supporting Student Wellbeing
This week we commenced our second Assessing Wellbeing in Education (AWE) survey among students for the year. For the past four years, the AWE survey has provided the College a way to measure student wellbeing over time and inform the development of various wellbeing initiatives and responses. Pleasingly, the survey has identified an increase in students’ general happiness, resilience and wellbeing, and a slight decrease in the experience of bullying behaviours in the past eighteen months.
To support Year 12 students as they head into their examinations over the coming weeks, the St Ignatius Library will be open during the first week of the Term 3 holidays from 8am to 12pm and the second week of the holidays from 8am to 5pm. Alumni tutors have been rostered on during this time for students to access. In addition to this, the College has developed a series of stress management resources for them to engage with. Developed by Guillaume Hauer, staff member and stress management consultant, the resources provide students with a weekly routine of goal setting, mindfulness, yoga, sleep management and gratitude activities.
This week, Year 8 students had the valuable opportunity to reflect on their Roncalli Service projects, sharing updates on their progress and experiences. It has been inspiring to see students step up with genuine acts of service in the local community, from supporting aged care residents, to coaching netball, and even preparing meals for their families.
The Roncalli Service program continues to give students the chance to live out the College values and take pride in being people for others. Well done, Year 8!
Year 10 students this week commenced work with Your Choicez, a values-based respectful relationship education program for teens. Now more than ever, young people are struggling to navigate the complexities of modern relationships. Through Term 4, students will engage in a series of workshops to facilitate exploration and conversations about topics such as dignity of the human person, friendships, consent and protective behaviours.
Homework Club
Our popular Homework Club continues until the end of the term, with lots of students taking advantage of the teacher and tutor academic support available. Homework Club is available for Secondary students every Monday to Thursday, from 3:30pm to 6:00pm in the Ignatius Centre Library. Please see below for more information and when specialist support is available.
When: Every Monday to Thursday
Where: Ignatius Centre Library
Time: The library will close at 6pm but the students may leave at any time beforehand. Year 7 to 10 students who remain past 5pm will need to be collected by a parent/guardian from the library.
Signing in and out: Students are required to sign in and out using the kiosk. Students will need a phone or laptop to scan the QR code.
As an additional support for Year 12 students as they head into their trial ATAR exams, the St Ignatius Library will be open during the first week of the Term 3 holidays from 8am to 12pm and the second week of the holidays from 8am to 5pm. Alumni tutors have been rostered on during this time for students to access.
Summer Uniform
The new term will see students transition into their summer uniform. As the weather can still be cool at the beginning of the term, students will have the option of wearing the correct summer or winter uniform until Monday, 27 October (Term 4, Week 3). The Uniform Code can be found here and staff are guided by the Positive Behaviour Framework to address instances when students do not wear the uniform correctly.
Carpark and Driving Etiquette
Senior students and parents are reminded to be considerate of others’ safety and road rules when driving on and around the campus. Also that students and parents are required to park in the parking areas provided on campus. There have been recent reports of students parking in Prince Albert Court, behind the College. Thank you for your support as we continue to be good neighbours within our community.
Smartrider Reminder
It has come to our attention that recently, there has been a rise in the number of students not using their Smartrider cards to tag on and off when using the Transperth bus service before and after school. Please be reminded that students are required to use their Smartrider when using public transport. Students who do not have a current Smartrider may order a replacement from the St Ignatius Library.

Year 10 Italian Film Festival Excursion
Each year, the Italian Film Festival comes to Perth and brings a range of Italian cultural and modern films for all to enjoy. On Tuesday 16 September, the Year 10 Italian students with Prof Polizzi and Prof Cinini went to Windsor Cinema to watch the film, 10 Giorni con i Suoi’, translated as When Mum is Away… with the In-laws. This film follows the adventure of the Rovelli family as they work through accepting their firstborn’s adventure to attend university and live with her boyfriend. The Rovelli family meets the boyfriend’s family, and the film features cultural clashes, a series of hilarious misunderstandings, theft and lies. Students and staff thoroughly enjoyed this film. Students were able to listen and watch an authentic modern Italian film and enjoy the inclusion of cities and regions of Italy, including the sunny Puglia.
Students in class will continue building vocabulary and understanding of the Italian film genre. Themes of the importance of family and relationships, comparing this to the Australian society and lifestyle, will be explored.
Year 8 Italian students and arancini
The Year 8 Italian classes have recently learnt about the origins of the famous Italian food, arancini. Students learnt how they are commonly made and how they can be made differently depending on the region in Italy. Arancini can be made in different shapes and sizes and have different ingredients. Students translated the vocabulary and watched a brief video on how to make them from scratch. They were then fortunate enough to enjoy two arancini, one with ragù and one with cheese. Grazie to Prof Cocco, Cinini and Polizzi for providing the students with an authentic cultural activity.

ACC A-Division Athletics Carnival: One BIG Team, one BIG Dream
Heading into the third and final major ACC Carnival of the year, having won 2 out of the 3 in Swimming and Cross-Country, the pressure and excitement of a possible third win was well and truly alive.
Our mottos for the day were - 'One BIG Team, one BIG dream' and 'It's not over till it's over'. And wow, did our team live that truth. We saw grit. We saw guts. We saw students digging deep, chasing down the finish line with everything they had, pushing for that little bit extra, that one extra point for the team.
In true JTC style, this year the margin had narrowed to 25 points before the start of the relays. These double-point events are met with so much excitement. We had some fantastic runs and closed out the day with a dominant performance by our U19 Boys team, taking the win by 20 metres.
Our incredible team of 155 Athletes finished second overall by 31 points behind Sacred Heart College, who took home their 27th consecutive win. We also clinched the Overall Boys Aggregate Shield by 29 points over Chisholm Catholic College.
To our athletes: we are beyond proud of you. You showed what it means to represent JTC – not just in performance, but in character. You inspired us and the whole community watching on the live stream.
To our staff and coaches, the making of this day is not possible without the time and effort that is put in. We cannot thank you enough for the work and time you have invested in this team and this dream!
