Grade 1 & 2

Term 4, Week 2

It’s been a very exciting start of Term 4 for Grade 1 & 2 Students!

First of all, welcome to our new students in Grade1/2 this term!

We have been practising retells, inferencing and we are learning to further explore new vocabulary in Readers Workshop! We love doing shared reading and giving our reading buddies feedback on their fluency and comprehension.

During our Writing lessons we have been revisiting our Narrative Writing structure and adding to our Writers Gifts. We worked on Procedurals, Poetry and Persuasive Writing last term and this term we are revising everything we’ve learnt this year! Grade 1’s and 2’s have written some amazing procedurals, persuasives and poetry including ‘How to do Laundry’, ‘How to make a fruit smoothie’, and have even argued that ‘Dragons are better than Mermaids’! We learnt about Haiku Poems, Shape Poems and Diamante Poems.

This term we are continuing with our Heggerty’s and Phonics slides to help us with our spelling and have been practising ‘syllabilification’ using prefixes.

It is going to be a big term for Maths! We are looking back at Place Value and Addition and Subtraction and are even going to have a go at Capacity and Mass. At the end of the year Grade1/2 will be learning about money, including coins and notes.

Lastly, we have started learning about Plastics in Inquiry and how we can successfully reuse them to help the environment. We have already explored what plastics are made of and what categories they can be sorted into. This week we are starting to create new items from old plastics!

Thank You to parents and carers for your ongoing support in this very busy term!
