Welcome back to term 4 everyone, I trust that the holidays went well for you, although I imagine there were some relieved adults on Monday as you sent your kids back to school:)
I can't believe that we are half way through October! Over the weekend we had a couple of teachers run in the Melbourne Marathon. It got me thinking about running a race well but also finishing well. As 2025 rapidly moves forward, I wonder how many of us started the year with goals we wanted to achieve but haven't managed to achieve them yet. I'm also thinking about our amazing grade 6 students who are also on the home stretch of their primary school years.
Sometimes it feels like the race of life is too long, or too hard, to many ups and downs and unexpected bumps in the road. For the staff who ran over the weekend, they didn't just wake up and decide to run 42km's with no preparation. They trained hard, they prepared themselves physically and mentally. When things felt too difficult they managed to summon the energy to keep pushing forward. They knew their was a finish line and they chose to keep going and not give up.
I have had the privilege of chatting with some of our grade 6 students about finishing their time in primary school with purpose. Perhaps working on any friendships that need a restorative chat, or stepping up as leaders in the BPS community by choosing different behaviours. All of us have experienced different 'preparation' for adult life. Our childhood and early adult life may have been a difficult training ground, for others it may have been smooth sailing.
I remind the kids when I chat with them, that no matter what turns and bumps their path has taken, they can make choices about how they want to move forward. As we start this last term of 2025 together, lets aim to finish this year well. Lets be intentional in those areas of our lives or our parenting that need some fine tuning and work towards change so that we can look back with satisfaction and peace for how far we have come and hope for the year ahead.
