We're changing our BPS House Names!!!

We are excited to announce that our school will be updating the names of our current Houses! We want our new House names to better reflect the values, history, and spirit of our school community now and in the future. Historically, Cook, Sturt, Tasman, and Dampier have been the names of our houses. However, being four male, white, European explorers, we no longer feel that these names best represent our vibrant and evolving school community.

BPS Student Voice: Choice: Action

At BPS we believe our students should have voice and choice and be actively involved in enacting change. We invite students to begin sharing their suggestions via our new "HOUSE NAME CHANGE" Showbie class with the code NW433, or through the suggestion box which will be located in the Gym foyer over the next few weeks!

We're asking for suggestions that reflect our school and community and ones that will stand the test of time.

Suggestions should be categories. We’d like to avoid using peoples names to keep things neutral and inclusive. Some possible ideas include:

  • Local landmarks or street names (ie. Maple, Larch, Fir, Elm)
  • Flora, fauna or animals (ie. Kangaroos, Koalas, Emus, Wombats)
  • Natural elements or colours (ie. Lighting, Flame, Wave, Stone)
  • Values (ie. Respect, Courage, Kindness, Determination)
  • Indigenous Wurundjeri words

So when will we have our new house names?

This process will take some time to discuss and consider properly BUT... with the help of the Junior School Council, our BPS current and future House Captains and F-2 students, our goal is to have finalised our new house names by the end of Term 1 2026.

BPS Record Breakers - Connor and Charlie!

Our student athletes at BPS love to jump far and high and recently two of our Grade 5 athletes broke long standing BPS field event records! We want to celebrate Connor and Charlie's outstanding achievements and acknowledge the effort and hard work it takes to break a record!

Congrats to our triple jump specialist Connor, who jumped a new personal best jump and 11 year males record of 8.79m at District Athletics. Connor broke the 11 year males BPS record by 3cm which was set way back in 2017!! Connor is known for his excellent all round capabilities across many track and field events!!! Outstanding effort Connor!!

Congratulations to Charlie who broke her own personal best jump of 1.25m in high jump, soaring higher and higher over the bar with a new 10cm PB of 1.35m!!!! It was special to watch this record breaking achievement take place during Charlie's high jump training for Division last Friday in our BPS gym. Charlie had lots of supporters with her dad in attendance and the whole Symphonic band clapping her run up and celebrating with Charlie as she soared over the bar and set the new record!!! The look of excitement on Charlie's face afterwards was brilliant!!!! Charlie broke the 2018 BPS 11 year females record by a whopping 10 cm!!!! Congrats Charlie!!!

BPS F-2 Big Bash School Challenge - Cricket

Big Bash School Cricket Challenge 2025

We have a fun and exciting challenge that our BPS F-2 classes are invited to take on over the  next 4 weeks. In Physical Education our focus will be on skills used in the sport of cricket. The Big Bash School Challenge is a program that uses basic cricket skills of throwing and catching to support your child's fundamental motor skills development. By registering your child online you have access to the fun at-home component which encourages you and your child to keep practising these skills in a fun, gamified way. When you register, our students can choose a Big Bash mascot as their avatar which powers up by earning points for completing short activities you could do in the lounge room or the backyard.

Practise leads to progress and progress gives us confidence to be the best we can be!

It's amazing how even 5-10 mins of additional activities at home a couple of times a week can fast track our student's skill development. There's also a cool, personalised certificate you can download at the end of the program. Think of it as the Reading Eggs or Mathletics for physical literacy.

At home - we can all get involved!!!

All you need is a small ball, or even a rolled up pair of socks will work, and your mobile phone or tablet. By signing up your child and completing the at-home activities, you also earn points for the school which will help us unlock additional benefits like free equipment and maybe even a visit from one of the stars of the Big Bash!

To get started and enrol your child, click on the specific BPS class link below to get started.

Have fun learning at home together and thanks for being part of your child's development in Physical Education at school and at home!

P.S. - There may even be a special prize for our student who earns the most points for our at home activities!!
