WHAM!

What's Happening At Milgate!

Acknowledgement of Country

Milgate Primary School would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land of the Wurundjeri People, and we would like to pay our respects to the elders both past and present. Staff, students and the school community understand that we thrive, learn and live on Wurundjeri Country and we stand with all cultures united as one.

Milgate's Vision

To provide a dynamic, inclusive learning environment that challenges students to become inquirers, thinkers and caring young people who are able to interact in the global society with respect and intercultural understanding

Year 2 Incursion

On Tuesday, Year 2 had an exciting hands-on session exploring Forces and Energy. This was connected with our unit of inquiry, How the world works. Students participated in a range of experiments where they tested and modified a lego car against the forces of magnetism, gravity, electricity and tension. This has ignited lots of wonderings and excitement to test and experiment further!

Father's & Special Friends Day

Today we celebrated our Father's & Special Friends with a morning of activities in the classrooms. Students had the chance to share their learning, play games, and enjoy time together with the special people in their lives. It was a wonderful opportunity to recognise and appreciate the important role these people play in supporting our students and being part of our school community.

Environmental Leaders Incursion

On Monday the 24th of August, Environmental Leaders from Years 4 to 6 had an incursion from Resource Smart/Manningham Council to complete a Biodiversity Audit. We got to count all the trees, shrubs, mulch and wildlife in the environment for our movement to become a five-star environmental school. We split up into groups of three to discover trees, ground and bushes that are native Australian and exotic. In the end, we came together and told the environmentalists our score. We also got to brainstorm ideas that we can do to improve our school's biodiversity score.

Spotlight on Wellbeing

On Wednesday morning we were fortunate to engage in professional learning with Dr Michael Carr-Gregg, who shared powerful insights on how we can best support young people to thrive in our schools. He emphasised the importance of prioritising mental health as part of the core curriculum, which closely aligns with the Victorian Department of Education’s focus on embedding wellbeing and the capabilities across all areas of learning. He also spoke about the critical need to teach digital literacy and establish healthy boundaries in today’s fast-paced, online world.

As of Term 4, we will be moving to a fortnightly newsletter format that will include a dedicated section on mental health and wellbeing. Each edition will highlight different areas or issues that impact young people’s mental health, provide information about how to prevent mental ill-health, and share proactive strategies to support wellbeing at home and at school. This ongoing focus will help keep our community informed and equipped with practical ways to nurture resilience and positive mental health in our students.

Dr Michael Carr-Gregg will also be presenting a parent seminar, which we highly encourage all families to attend. It promises to be an informative and practical session to support the wellbeing of our young people.
