Billanook’s Art Show ‘The Seasons’ will be an exciting event to start Term 4, after many months of effort to create the artworks on display. Students will then explore the art elements of line, shape and colour through drawing, collage and printmaking activities during Term 4. Connections between art and emotions will be explored after reading the book My Many Coloured Days by Dr. Seuss. Students will create drawings that show how lines and shapes can represent different facial expressions, then create a collage with coloured fabrics and papers that reflect various emotions. Later in the term, students will design and create their own collagraph printing plate and explore various printing techniques, using frottage, foil, markers, and paint. Students will have regular opportunities to share their artworks, as well as discuss and appreciate the art of their peers.

In Term 4, students will continue to develop their understanding of HOLM (handshapes, orientation, location and movement) and NMF (non-manual features). As we revise old signs and learn new ones, we will compare their similarities and differences to help develop our understanding of these five language parameters. Topics that will be covered over the term include items around the home, sea animals, medical terminology and Christmas. Students will learn to sign the Ode of Remembrance, which they will sign with the whole school at our Remembrance Day Assembly on November 10th. As we get closer to Christmas, we will learn how to sign The Twelve Days of Christmas to perform at the Billanook Carols. Throughout the term we will encourage our school values of Respect, Kindness, Grit and Aspiration, as we celebrate our own achievements as well as those of our peers.

This term, Level 1/2 students will be discovering how music, movement, and drama can be used to celebrate special occasions and tell stories. Through fun listening games, echo singing, and body percussion activities, students will begin to build their sense of rhythm, focus, and musical expression. They will also have the chance to play untuned percussion instruments and experiment with sequencing sounds.

Students will enjoy exploring famous pieces such as Flight of the Bumblebee and The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, using movement and drama to respond creatively. An introduction to ballet will show how dance can be used to tell a story. Towards the end of term, students will be preparing for the Christmas Concert, where they will share their learning and celebrate their achievements through performance.

Catching, throwing, hitting, running and jumping will continue being developed. Students will also concentrate on skills specific to simple throwing and catching games such as Captain Ball. The development of sportsmanship will continue to be a main focus throughout the term.
