Department of Education Strategic Plan (from Secretary’s Update 3 September 2025)

The Department has released its 2025–2029 Strategic Plan, setting out a shared vision of “a great education for every child and young person, so they can thrive now and into the future – for a fairer, smarter and more prosperous state.”

The plan outlines the priorities that will guide system-wide efforts to deliver excellent outcomes for Victorian children and young people. The following areas will shape the Department’s work over the four years and are critical for school leaders to note:

• Early learning – more free, high-quality hours for all children.
• Excellence in learning – stronger student outcomes.
• Safety and wellbeing – ensuring supports are in place to keep children safe and engaged.
• First Nations focus – self-determination and cultural safety.
• Equity – addressing disadvantage and vulnerability.

• Workforce – strengthening and supporting teachers and leaders.

   

We encourage members to familiarise themselves with the Strategic Plan and its priorities, as school leaders have a vital role to play in shaping and delivering on these commitments. A copy of the Strategic Plan is available here.
