Victorian President's Report

Tina King - APF Victorian President

As we close out the term, I want to take a moment to share some important updates and reflections.

On behalf of the APF, I extend our warm congratulations to Tony Bates on his appointment as Secretary of the Department of Education. We look forward to working in partnership with Tony to advance the interests of school leaders and ensure a strong and sustainable education system for Victoria.

The APF has written to Wayne Gatt, Secretary of the Police Association, to express our sympathy for the tragic loss of serving members of the force who died at Porepunkah. On behalf of our members, we extend our condolences to their colleagues, families, and the wider policing community at this difficult time. From one union to another, we stand in solidarity with the Police Association in honouring the service and sacrifice of those members who lost their lives. In moments such as these, the bonds between organisations and community are a reminder of the values and commitment we share.

On a positive note, it was an absolute pleasure to attend the Victorian State Schools Spectacular. The event was a vibrant celebration of the extraordinary talent, creativity, and dedication of students from government schools right across Victoria. From the breath-taking music and dance performances to the impressive staging and production, the Spectacular truly showcased the depth of skill and commitment of our young people, as well as the tireless efforts of the educators who support them.

Congratulations are also extended to the Performing Arts Division of the Department, whose vision, expertise, and year-round dedication make this remarkable event possible. Their hard work behind the scenes delivers an inspiring celebration that highlights the best of public education in Victoria.

Finally, as we wrap up what has been another demanding term, I wish all members a restful and well-earned break. The APF has submitted a formal request to the Department for consideration of four even terms of 10 weeks, a structure we believe will better support the wellbeing and workload management of school staff, students and their communities.

Thank you for your ongoing commitment and leadership. We encourage you to take time for yourselves and your families over the break, and we look forward to working alongside you in the term ahead.
