Egg-citing opportunities

There’s been lots of excitement down at the Ag Plot – our new chickens have arrived! They’ve already made themselves at home and are giving students plenty of chances to learn along the way.

In Science, Hamish has been cracking on with learning how to follow a procedure and investigating changing states of matter. What better way to explore this than by cooking up our very own fresh school eggs? Watching them go from runny liquid to a solid snack was the perfect experiment and a tasty one, too!

Our Year 9/10 Agriculture elective students have been studying poultry production systems. They’ve been learning all about how chickens are raised for eggs and meat in Australia – plus they deserve a HUGE thank you for their hard work in making the Ag Plot “chicken proof.” Without their effort, our feathered friends would not have a safe and comfortable home!

Meanwhile, Year 8 Ag Tech students have been busy in the veggie patch. They’ve been learning how to grow fresh produce and are now sharing the garden space with the chickens. It’s been a great way to see how plants and animals can work together in a farming system.

The chickens have already brought lots of fun and eggs to our school. We can’t wait to see what other egg-citing opportunities they hatch next!

Year 8 Power Up with Electrical Circuits!

Year 8 Science students have been busy sparking their curiosity as part of their Energy unit. Recently, they’ve been learning all about electricity and how it moves through circuits to power the things we use every day.

As part of their assessment task, students were challenged to design, draw, and then build their own electrical circuit. This hands-on project gave them the chance to apply what they’ve been learning in class, while also testing their problem-solving and creative thinking skills.

From simple series circuits to more complex parallel designs, students explored how energy flows, how components like switches and bulbs work, and how circuits can be made more efficient.

It’s been an electrifying way to bring Science to life, with students learning not just the theory behind energy, but also how to apply it in practical, real-world ways.

Well done to all of Year 8 for lighting up the classroom with their energy and ideas.

Year 9 - 'The Raven'

This term, our Year 9 students have been delving into Edgar Allan Poe’s haunting poem 'The Raven'. One student, Hamish Maunder, went a step further by transforming the poem into a creative Book Week costume, with the support of our wonderful EAs. Alongside this, the whole year group has been using 'The Raven' as inspiration to write their own poems and to begin thinking critically about the themes and techniques of Gothic literature. Well done Year 9!

Police Liaison Visit

Our local Police Liaison, Ben Stride, presented to Years 5-10 students about a range of topics. The topics for each year group were:

  • Year 7 - Sharing content, legal and ethical behaviour, grooming, safety, getting help
  • Year 8 - Sharing content, legal and ethical behaviour, grooming, safety, getting help
  • Year 9 - Respectful relationships or staying safe online
  • Year 5 & 6 - Cyber Crime or Harassment and Assault.

This was a very informative and engaging session for all of our students. Students, parents and carers are encouraged to visit the  e Safety Commissioner Website for more information.
