The Syndal Stars focus for this week is ‘I make the most of my learning time’.
As part of our school value of Responsibility, students discussed what it means to be responsible and to make the most of their learning time. We brainstormed what a responsible learner looks and sounds like, including having our resources ready, listening to all instructions, asking for help, trying our best and focusing on the task without getting distracted.
In Foundation, students brainstormed how they make the most of their learning time. They made colourful learning pencils for their classroom. Students designed their pencil and wrote a sentence about how they use their time effectively at Syndal South Primary School.
In Year 1 and 2, classes talked about strategies they already use to help with focus such as making good choices about where they sit and who they work with, working at the class chosen noise level and asking for help when they aren’t sure.
In Year 3 and 4, students used their voice and agency to determine what helps them to make the most of their time and successfully achieve their learning goals. Quiet noise levels, timers to keep students on track and organised learning spaces were three of the most important ideas.
In Year 5 and 6, students have focused on the Student Voice Outcomes and looked specifically at Agency, where they need to take responsibility for their learning. They have brainstormed and prioritised the characteristics of an independent learner. We have identified areas of improvement needed as well as looking at positive self-talk before starting a task.
