Reading

CURRICULUM FOCUS

This week in Reading we have been learning how to synthesise a text.

VOCABULARY

Synthesising: combining facts you already know about a text before reading, with what you have learnt after reading.

Fiction: a made up story.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Ask your child to choose a dot book from their blue satchel and draw something that they already know about the text.

Then they should read the book and draw something that they have learnt.

Finally, ask your child to form a sentence, synthesising what they already knew about the text and what they learnt.

For example: a book about koalas.

I knew that Koalas live in trees, I learnt that they eat eucalyptus leaves.
