SSV Year 8 Girls' Badminton State Championships

On Friday 8th September BHS qualified for the SSV Year 8 Girls' Badminton State Championships at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC). The students were all very excited to be attending the SSV State Championships but knew they would have a tough assignment against the state’s best badminton players.

The Year 8 Girls put in a hard fought effort against very strong Melbourne teams. The day started out with the girls having a win against another regional team, Wangaratta High School (3-110 v 3-98). From there Melbourne Girls College (0-55 v 6-126) and Narre Warren South P-12 College (0-46 v 6-126) had strong teams with great depth in their line-up. All of the team tried and supported each other through the challenging matches. Special mention goes to Rose Triantafyllopoulos who ran, rallied and tried for every point against strong smashes and sneaky drops. Rose and Olive took notice of some coaching advice and worked well as a team to gain a very respectful score of 17 against 21 in a difficult doubles match.

I wish to commend the girls for their team spirit and emotional support during an eye opening and demanding day. I look forward to seeing their growth as a team as learning from this experience and look forward to 2024.
