Father's Day Celebrations

Last week we gathered to celebrate all who have answered Yes to God’s call to the vocation of fatherhood. A ministry of love, of self sacrifice - an adventure of service. On Thursday we gathered as a Junior School to celebrate a Father’s Day liturgy. Students from Years 5 and 6 offered beautiful tributes to the fathers, while also building a sacred space with symbols to the words of the following reflection:

'God took the strength of a mountain, the majesty of a tree, the warmth of a summer sun, the calm of a quiet sea, the generous soul of nature, the comforting arm of night, the wisdom of the ages, the power of the eagle’s flight, the joy of a morning in spring, the faith of a mustard seed, the patience of eternity, the depth of a family need, then God combined these qualities, when there was nothing more to add, He knew His masterpiece was complete, and so, He called it … Dad'.

On Friday we celebrated a Senior School Mass at Our Lady of Dolours Catholic Church that was supported with sublime music from our college musicians and singers. Fr David Ranson inspired us with his Homily on the power of mentoring in the role of Fatherhood and the embracing of the challenge and opportunities that come with this vocation of service.

Fathers and sons were given the opportunity to turn to one another and to ask the profound question, face to face, 'What about me makes you proud?' Many a tear and hug were shared.

Answering Yes to God’s Call - Seminarian Benefit Dinner

On Saturday at Harrington Hall Joe Lonergan and Riley Seeto of Year 11 represented the college at the Diocese of Broken Bay Seminarian Benefit Dinner hosted by Our Lady of Dolours Catholic Church. Attendees were blessed to hear from the Very Reverend Anthony Randazzo, Bishop of Broken Bay, recently returned pilgrims from World Youth Day in Portugal and the seven seminarians from Broken Bay. Their testimony spoke of the adventure and beauty in answering ‘Yes’ to God’s call and how to discern the signs God gives us during our journey. The college is most grateful to Fr Joey and Fr David for the warm invitation and generous hospitality.

My Story, Our Story, The Story - Religious Education

Congratulations to both Year 9 and 10 students who have completed and submitted an assessment task on the topics of ‘Living a loving life’ and ‘The Story of the Church’ respectively.

Years 7 and 8 are both underway with their assessment tasks. Year 7 are exploring ‘Care for our Common Home,’ while Year 8 are researching and accounting for the Sacraments of Initiation.

Each task is designed to teach students application of knowledge, research skills and critical thinking.

Ultimately, the tasks will support faith formation in the areas of Catholic ethics, Church History and Sacraments.

Every Blessing for the week ahead.
