From the Senior Sports Master

As the winter season draws to a close, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the 3rd XI, 4th XI, 16A, 14A, and 14C football teams who head into their Grand Finals at Rooty Hill this Saturday.  We wish them well for their matches.  If you would like to support them on Saturday, please see the fixtures table below for game times.

Commiserations to the 1st XI, 2nd XI and 14B teams who were unfortunately beaten in their semi-finals on the weekend.

While our ISA Rugby will have their final games this weekend at St Greg’s, our ISA Tennis matches have concluded.  Winter Squash continues for the following 4 weeks.

At this time, I draw your attention to our ISA Code of Conduct (attached) which applies to all players, coaches, officials and spectators.

My thanks go to all of you who have contributed to the season in any way: from our Ground staff, our Coaching staff, the Old Boys' Association, the parents who provided morning and afternoon teas, to those of you who provided transport and cleaned uniforms or simply turned up to support.  To the boys themselves, all of you make such a massive contribution to the sports programs.  THANK YOU!!!!   Sport at the College would not be the same without you.

In the meantime, the summer season is gearing up and will be upon us before we know it. This coming Saturday, our NSTA Tennis hopefuls will have a grading day at Queenwood Courts in Oxford Falls. Cricket training for the upcoming season will commence on Tuesday 22 August.  For our basketballers, grading commenced this week and will run for approximately 4 weeks.

Finally, the Invitational Athletics season is in full swing with events taking place over the coming weeks.  All athletes should now be available and in attendance. Congratulations to those students who participated in the City to Surf last Saturday.

Please make sure you keep up to date with notices which will appear in separate sports sections.

Meanwhile enjoy a well-deserved break between seasons – you have earned it!

Senior Football

Results Saturday 12 August

Congratulations to the 3rd XI, 4th XI, 16A, 14A and 14C on making it to this weekend's grand finals.  All matches are being held at Western Sydney Wanderers Football Park which is located at 81-131, Eastern Road, Rooty Hill. Please note that it takes approximately 50 minutes from Chatswood by car, and as all Division 1 and Division 2 boys and girls grand finals are being held at the same location, parking will be VERY tight, so please allow time for this.

Good luck to all teams.

SPX Football Supporters Club

Thank you to our wonderful SPX Football Community.

At SPX we have a wonderfully generous football Community.

Our supporters demonstrated their generosity of time when they volunteered to cook on the BBQ, bake cakes, stay back after events to clean up, assisted to share Football Club news and helped set up the AGM.

Our supporters demonstrated their generosity of finances when they purchased BBQ, merchandise, baked goods, raffle tickets and tickets to club events. This was also demonstrated with donations of baked goods, financial contributions, signage, a coffee machine, BBQ meats, wine and Matilda’s Gear.

Our supporters demonstrated generosity of spirit when they helped team mates get to and from games and shared their football gear, encouraged our boys to enjoy playing football, helped families from other schools to find their way around Oxford Falls grounds, acknowledged the efforts of our coaches throughout the season, made positive suggestions to club about how we can all best support the SPX Football Program and engaged with the wider St Pius X College Football community at Saturday football games and club events.

Thank you to our whole SPX Football community for their generosity this season.

Goodluck to all SPX senior football teams playing in the Grand Finals this weekend!

Athletics

With Athletics season in full swing, last Sunday, 13 August, some of our students and staff ventured out to take on the City2Surf 14k challenge. It was a great way to start the morning with perfect weather for the run.

Well done to the following boys: Luke Mooney, Ethan Li, Ben Woollard and Cavan Ryan who, along with our St Pius X staff of Mr Ben Ryan and Mr Anthony Tassone, represented the college. The boys ran at a highly commendable speed ranging between 58 minutes to 73 minutes. Mr Scott Steinman and I travelled on transport to meet the boys at Bondi Beach, and we were in awe to see that the boys had beat us to the finish line.

Commonwealth Youth Games

Last week, our Year 11 student, Matthew Hunt, represented Australia at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago. Congratulations to Matthew for his outstanding achievements, securing fourth place in the 400m hurdles and a bronze medal in the mixed 4x400m relay, showcasing his remarkable dedication and skill. Matthew's hard work and determination is an inspiration to us all.  We will definitely keep an eye out for Matthew's achievements in the coming years!

From the Committee

Students need to be registered to play.

Registration can be completed at https://www.trybooking.com/1096713 and closes on 26 August. If you can remember, the nominated team should be that which the boys played with last year. If unsure, you may select N/A.

The first round of regular season fixtures is expected to commence on 21 October (Week 2 Term 4). Once the ISA provides a finalised schedule, we will look to confirm the time of all home games to assist with Saturday morning family logistics.

During the last school holidays Grind Over Everything conducted basketball camps for all year groups at the college in Chatswood. The camps were highly successful, so please watch this space for news on upcoming events.

The committee will be looking for parent volunteers to help with basketball related tasks during the upcoming season. Please put your hand up to assist with the Oxford Falls canteen and or scoring for home games.

Looking forward to a great season!
