S.T.E.M.
Welcome to STEM!
Our term is coming to a close, and so are our chemical science experiments and projects.
The Prep students continue their exploration of their school environment and have been deciding the best materials to use when constructing an object to display in the Prep nature garden. The materials they choose to make their object, need to be able to withstand the outdoors.
Our Grade 1/2 classes have continued their investigation of mixtures, specifically how mixtures can be separated using different techniques. They used a chromatography technique to separate the colour pigments in different pens and used the results of their experiment to deduce which pen had been used to write a letter inviting them to a playdate.
Students in Grades 3 & 4 tested the tensile strength, water resistance, and absorbency of different materials. They drew conclusions about which materials would be best to construct bags for carrying different loads.
The Grade 5/6’s continue to investigate how substances change. They are looking at the 'States of Matter' and conducting experiments on the phase changes that occur between, solids, liquids, and gases.
