CLUB NEWS

Old Book Club

On Wednesdays, our School Captains and Youth ambassadors: Remy, Tom, Skylar and Edward run an Old Book Club in the Foundation Foyer. They read books Feelings and People this month to help junior students to recognise their feelings and their personal identity.

They also ran a craft session after share reading to help foundation students express the connection they have with the books.

LOTE

Chinese culture plays an important part in engaging students in language learning. Students learn to appreciate the traditional Chinese poetry by recognising the rhyming patterns and rythms. The picked up the Mandarin phonics more easily by hearing and singing the poems.

This is Harrison, Nicky, Jai and Bodhi from Year 1C to present their beautiful reading of a Chinese poem “Empathy with Farmers”.

In year 5 and 6, we invited the Academy of Guzheng (Chinese Zithers) for an incursion. The principal Sherry had brought in 11 Guzheng instuments and her breathtaking music to our school. The students learnt beautiful terminology for the instruments – strings are mountains and diagonal bridges are flying birds. They learnt that one simple instrument can express gentle tunes as well as powerful and energetic pieces.
