Multiage –Celebrating Learning

Our Trip to Scienceworks

Mighty Multiage went to Scienceworks because we are learning about science.

Our topic is "On the Move” and it's all about the forces like gravity, friction and push and pull.

We went on the bus across the West Gate Bridge and when we arrived, we looked around the “Think Ahead” Exhibition. We saw the first computer ever made in Australia and it was gigantic. We looked at old PlayStations, controllers, and computer games. Lots of us went into the sound and light room and we could make sounds for different emotions. Some people were caring for the environment by making plants grow, collecting plastic rubbish, recycling and saving water on a screen by using their arms and jumping up and down.

Upstairs we went to the “Beyond Perception” area and we made colourful patterns on material and some people made patterns and music on a computer screen. There was a really cool machine where you could make snow fly around the air using the buttons. We could lie on cosy couches and look at the stars and space and mirrors above us.

After we had our morning tea on the colourful stairs and a quick play in the playground, we went to our “Roller Coaster” lesson. Sophia showed us some videos of roller coasters and we pretended we were on it. Then we worked in a group to make our own roller coasters. We became Roller Coaster Engineers, and it was interesting and great fun. We had a rubber track, giant Lego bricks, tape, a stool, white stackers and little wooden balls. We had to design a loop de loop and we had to keep trying until it worked. We persevered and we didn’t give up and we all succeeded!

Then we went to our other favourite place – Sportsworks. We had a go at lots of different ball sports like baseball, footy handball, netball and soccer. We ran against Cathy Freeman, but no-one could beat her. We had wheelchair races, some rode the bike to make the skeleton pedal and some people went blowkarting. We measured how high we could jump, how tall we are, how far we could reach and how fast our reflexes were.

After lunch and another play, we saw the old telescope being restored and we went to the old Pumping Station to learn all about where all the wee and poo goes. We looked at videos of the old sewer tunnels and we saw some old rat skeletons.

Our Scienceworks end of term excursion was amazing, interesting, awesome, deadly, and fun!
