P.E.
P.E WITH LEIGH
The end of the term has been incredibly busy with the Gala Days now complete for the 5/6s students. As a school we managed to qualify in the cricket and the Girls basketball team. The children enjoyed playing the other schools in the district and to give you a sense of the logistics involved; the events are organised for over 800 children across 4 sports over 2 days. The schedules are organised over multiple teams which are completed as a team across the district. This is the first year we went with the format, and it reduced the intervention of weather as a factor in cancellations.
The District Athletics and follow up events are now concluding with several of our students progressing to metropolitan carnival. The final term will see a focus on summer sports and consolidating the skills of the younger children with the improvement in the weather. Hats back on and sun protection and hydration are now necessary with the children spending more time in the sun.
I would like to encourage the parents/carers to consider team or individual sports for their children as a hobby or fitness activity. The benefits to children’s social development and overall fitness are well documented. As far as having the skill or being motivated I feel that the ideal age is the 9/10-year-olds as they are beginning to develop their skill and physical strength.
Local clubs that I would like to recommend as well coached are; The Darebin Soccer Club, the Fitzroy/Preston and Northcote football the clubs. The Brunswick Lacrosse Club. Oakover Marshal Arts school is also very well run and has success with Neuro Diverse children. There are also many gymnastics, dance, and circus clubs that I hear the children talk about are well organised and coached. If you know a club that you would like to recommend, send me a message and I can share.
Lastly, I would like to congratulate the Foundation students as they have nearly completed there first year at school and would feel that school is now a big part of there life and social development. I’m looking forward to seeing that development reflected in their continued improvement in sports and social interactions.
Thanks Leigh Collins
