Marvelous, Magnificent Minds: Gifted & Talented Conference
Last Wednesday 16 August, 5 Senior students from St Joseph's represented our school at the Marvelous, Magnificent Minds Conference for gifted & talented students at St Columba's College in Essendon.
The message of the day was "know your gift, grow your gift, gift your gift."
We did some workshops that helped us to grow our gifts. The first was a fashion design workshop using recycled materials. We worked in groups with students from other schools which we really liked. The next workshop was about creative and critical thinking. We learned that creative and critical thinking are needed to turn great ideas into a reality. At the end of the day we did a presentation to share our learning with students and teachers from many other schools. It was great to see what everyone had been working on throughout the day.
We had a really fun time, learned a lot and the food provided was great! We would like to thank Miss Kate for chaperoning us.

National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence (NDA)
Last Monday 14 August 2023, St Joseph's participated in the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence (NDA). The NDA is Australia’s key bullying prevention initiative for schools, connecting schools and communities to implement workable solutions to prevent bullying.
At St Joseph's we are helping to grow connections by taking part in special lessons from Bullying. No Way! promoting inclusiveness, respect and community belonging for all students. Next time you are in the school yard, make sure to check out our Growing Connections display in the undercroft!
The 2023 NDA theme, Growing connections, promotes the importance of school, family and community connections in building safe and supportive learning environments where all students can belong, feel accepted and respected.
Research has shown that strong school connections and positive relationships can help to prevent bullying. When students feel a sense of belonging and connectedness at school, they are more likely to enjoy school, to trust and respect their teachers, and be concerned about and help others (Australian Education Research Organisation 2023).
