Chaplain's Corner 2023

Hi MPS Family

As you will have read in the principal's message, I have made the difficult decision to finish up as Chaplain at Marangaroo Primary School at the end of this term.  There are many reasons that you may hear, think or wonder as to why I have made this decision, but the actual reason is: MY FAMILY.

I will be getting married in the first few weeks of next term and blending a family.  My partner Jono and I will be bringing together 4 teen boys with Autism between us and all the challenges that blending a family and co-parenting with ex partners.  I want to do this transition well for them and for Jono and I.

I have no problem sharing with you that this has been a hard decision, as I have loved being Chaplain at this amazing school. I believe that there are even better days ahead for each of you too.  Please come and see me at the carnival tomorrow or assembly coffee morning on Friday if you would like to say farewell.

Final Encouragement:

In 2023 this school community has been through so much change and change can be tough and confusing. I want to take this opportunity to remember that regardless that we are community, I have always called and considered you family. Community are stronger together.  MPS is an amazing little school to be a part of and I have been proud to work here with all the staff, all the students and all of the community.  As I finish this newsletter entry, I wanted to share this thought from Rachel Macy Stafford from the book #onlylovetoday:

"In 6 seconds you can kiss someone like you mean it.

In 6 seconds you can hold open a door.

In 6 seconds you can wait for a straggler to catch up. “Take your time,” you can even say.

In 6 seconds you can take a deep breath.

In 6 seconds you can let it go.

In 6 seconds you can tuck a note in a lunchbox or a pocket. It takes 2 seconds to draw a heart.

In 6 seconds you can say you’re sorry.

In 6 seconds you can cut yourself some slack.

In 6 seconds you can throw away that picture, that pair of pants, that inner bully that keeps you from loving this day, this you.

In 6 seconds you can feel the sunshine.

In 6 seconds you decide it’s time to stop looking back.

In 6 seconds you can whisper, “It’s gonna be okay,” to yourself or someone who’s scared.

I used to sound like a broken record. “I don’t have time,” I’d always say.

But then I realized what could happen in a mere

6 seconds.

It’s enough to make a bad day good …

It’s enough to bring life back to your weary bones …

It’s enough to remember what really matters in the midst of so much that doesn’t.

It's enough to change the future."
