Recently the Year 3/4 students have been developing their poetry skills in Literacy. Teaching poetry can ignite a lifelong love for language and self-expression. It fosters creativity, encourages critical thinking and enhances vocabulary and communication skills.
Here are some samples from our Year 3/4 students:

Limerick Poem - By Violet B
There once was a girl who was called Louise
Who loved to eat all her cheese
She went to her friends
And did lots of bends
Then all of a sudden she fell on her knees
Limerick Poem - By Sienna H
There once was a girl named Sienna
She really liked to travel to Vienna
She liked the beach
She went to each
And there she met a girl named Brianna
The Prep students have been busy learners this year and we would love to share a few things that have been happening in their classrooms.
Play, Draw, Talk, Write
A popular and engaging approach to kickstart students' writing creativity. In a recent Literacy session, students had a lively 10-minute adventure on the Ninja Warrior Course. Afterward, they hurried back inside to illustrate their playtime experiences. In pairs, they shared and discussed their playtime adventures before collectively exploring various writing examples as a class. Finally, the students crafted their individual recounts of their exciting playtime adventures.
Prep Writing Samples:
When I was on the Ninja Warrior Course I went on the fireman's pole and I had fun.
I played soccer with my friends on the Ninja Course. I stopped a goal from the other team.
As a school we are excited to welcome all families to our Primary Assemblies each Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Due to the Primary Production of Aladdin Jr, there will be no Primary Assemblies in the last 2 weeks of term starting from Monday 18th September. The Jiloa Centre will be full of rehearsals, sound and lighting setup and a sense of excitement as we prepare to present something spectacular for the DCS Community.
Tickets for Aladdin Jr. have been selling fast, with only a few seats left for some of the evening shows!
School families now have the opportunity to purchase additional tickets to Aladdin Jr. for extended family and loved ones. There are still plenty of tickets available for the Matinees so if you are able to come to a Matinee show we encourage you to do so.
Please click here to access the online booking form.
We will be opening up any remaining tickets to the general public tomorrow, Thursday 14th September.
Students and staff are getting so excited as the opening shows for Aladdin Jr draw near!
We just wanted to advise families that we have added an additional Thursday afternoon rehearsal to the original schedule:
There will now be a rehearsal on Thursday 14th September from 3.15pm-4.30pm for all main cast and ensemble members.
Thank you.
We are excited to be able to offer all cast members an opportunity to purchase an Aladdin Jr. t-shirt.
Cost for the t-shirt is $33 each and students will have the opportunity to wear the t-shirt at different times leading up to the production, including during rehearsals, backstage and ushering.
To simplify the ordering process, orders and payment can be made through an online store that has been set up specifically for our school.
Orders will close this Friday 15th September.
Please click here to access the online store.
