School for Student Leadership

for year 9 students.

My time away at SSL was incredible. I learnt to do so many new activities as well as new life skills. I learnt to adapt to new environments and to go into challenges with a positive mindset. I made so many friends and found new passions that I know I'm going to carry with me forever. SSL is the best thing I have ever done for myself and if anyone asked me if they should do it I would say absolutely because it's the experience of a lifetime, you will never get an opportunity like it ever again, and that's what makes it so special.   Charlotte Dahl

My time at SSL was amazing, when arriving I wasn’t that nervous about making friends however I was scared about who my roommate was going to be. My roommate was Taylor from Torque and we got along so well, we found a balance between hangout out with each other and having alone time. Our reports would be based of 9 learning concepts, while being away I worked on my Emotional Management and Resilience. Through classes like Bridge Building, Surfing and Raft Building I’ve learnt to take time to chill so I don’t get angry at everyone. I one hundred percent recommend this camp to future year 8 students wanting to go. Olivia Bell

My time at SSL was amazing I was nervous when I first got there and stayed in my shell and only hung out with the people I knew, but then everybody was so inviting and comforting, and I could show my true self, and nobody would judge me. My roommate was the best I could’ve asked for he wasn’t loud at night, and he would be very nice and caring. His name was Will, and he was from Preston high school in the middle of Melbourne.

The key things I went there for was to meet new people and to develop my leadership skills and to become more mature. I achieved that by the end of SSL, and it feels so good to be a better leader than I used to be and now everybody says I am more mature and they start to listen to me more. I learnt all of this through the classes we did about the 9 learning concepts.

I would recommend this to everybody, and they should take this opportunity because you are only going to get this chance once in your lifetime and not everybody is going to do it. -Tom Morton

My time at SSL was amazing! Before I was a bit nervous and once I arrived I hung out with, Tom but later on I made friends with everybody there, everybody was so kind and it was like a massive family! We learnt things that normal school doesn’t teach us. There were learning concepts that our report was based on and two of mine I focused on was Identity and Empathy and we have classes specifically for them. The activities made all of us close together and made us rely on each other and trust each other. We had 2 expeditions where we packed hiking bags and walk on the beach and through forests and camp in tents. The food was really good too and we had theme days to include people’s culture like Hungarian day and Canadian day.

Going home was really hard because we were all a family and they would say we will get homesick from SSL and I definitely am, I miss everybody there and I wish I could’ve gone for longer. I would recommend anybody that gets the opportunity to absolutely take it, it’s a one in a lifetime thing and you’ll make a wonderful family there that you’re going to miss. Nathan Clarke
