Year 8 Camp

In Week 8 of Term 3 the Year 8 students had the opportunity to get in touch with their adventure side. Setting off bright and early on Monday morning students were both excited and nervous about the week to come. Monday consisted of road, road and more road as we made the 7 hour trip to the amazing 15 Mile Creek Camp in Greta South, North East Victoria. As soon as we arrived, the students were thrusted into the adventure environment. Starting off with a version of hide and seek that not only provided great entertainment, but also took away the sense of sight in the dark. Battered and bruised from the night before students then set off on their 3 days of adventures filled with mountain biking, rock climbing, abseiling, hiking and camping out at the beautiful Mt Sumaria. A week of adventures drew to a close on Friday with lots of storytelling, re-enacting and smiles on some very tired faces.

The first day of camp we had rock climbing as our very first activity. Everyone was pumped, excited and some a little nervous. While we were walking over to the rock climbing everyone was talking to their mates about the event we were about to do. When we got to the rock climbing wall place, which had four stations, we got our harnesses on and grabbed out safety helmets, ready to climb. Everyone had a go, even Mr Zhang, which was a shock to us students. He gave it a fair crack! After rock climbing and lunch we went on an adventure walk. We saw an echidna, that was taking its time walking on past us. A highlight was from camp was the hide and seek on steroids. Everyone was falling over which was hilarious. Special mention to those who fell in the creek and were covered in mud. Don’t worry Miss Wright did our washing!

On day two of camp, we set off in the bus with our massive bags and once we got to the mountain we dropped our massive bags off and we started to hike. Dash, Jessy and I were leading the hike and once we got to the top of the mountain we had lunch. After lunch we hiked back to our bags and set up camp. After which we had dinner, which was Spaghetti Bolognese. We packed up the next day after breakfast and headed back to 15 Mile Creek, ready for another day of activities.

On day three of camp. Our bags are packed and ready for hiking. We had breakfast then headed off for our hike. I wasn’t up for it but I surprisingly did well and kept in front. The worst happened when we reached the summit. It rained and we had to climb down hill. Let just say I fell down tracks, rocks and trees. The other time I fell before we reached the bottom and had to hike again, I got prickles in my hand and they were everywhere!
