From the Principal's desk
Finally… the old gym is new again.
After many, many months of planning, design, development, and construction we have a new, and beautifully refurbished gymnasium ready for term 4 action. The gym has been fully renovated to upgrade the student toilets and change rooms, reception, weights room, stadium floor, ceiling, walls and an overhaul to the sound and lighting for upcoming productions and assemblies.
I wish to thank Ryan Hatherall and Ultrabuild for their work under some challenging supply conditions. I would also like to thank the Physical Education and Health team for their input and acknowledge Morton Co Architects for their patience in the design. The biggest thank you must go to our amazing Business Manager, Sharon Donehue for her leadership across the many meetings, administration tasks and decisions to ensure the project made it to completion. We very much look forward to show casing the new facility this Friday for our Student Leaders Investiture which is well overdue but will be worth the wait.
Another highlight of the past few weeks was our production of Alice in Wonderland which was directed and produced by the very talented and dedicated Mr. Ben Hunter. It was a massive undertaking with plenty of staff, parent and student support. The biggest thrill was not the result, but the way the show was able to put a spotlight on the talents of many of our students both in front and behind the curtain. There was true leadership and collaboration on display from start to finish. Well done crew!
There have also been a number of excursions and events held over the past few weeks including the English Lecture trip to Horsham, the Biology Ecolinc Excursion for our Senior Biology students to Melbourne and Teen Mental Health Training. Our Year 8 students enjoyed the much-anticipated camp to 15 Mile Creek and four of our Year 9 students returned home after a term away at the Snowy River Leadership Camp.
We have recently celebrated Daffodil Day to raise money and awareness of those suffering with cancer. This week we also had our footy colours day at the same time as the Legacy Relay was being run around the town to promote 100 years of Legacy in the community. Our students and school have always been very closely connected to Legacy and the RSL as we fundraise by selling badges each and every year with this year being no exception.
Our Year 12 Students have had another dress up day this term, this time entitled Rhyme without reason and it will not be long before they are celebrating their final days with only exams and the workforce ahead. We also recently transported students to district soccer, basketball and clay target shooting competitions with some great results.
Finally, we are continually looking to educate our students beyond the basics of literacy and numeracy and have booked in awareness programs around the harms of using e-cigarettes. We are now only too aware of the harm that can be caused when unknown toxins are inhaled and we aim to ensure our students are safe now and into the future.
As always, we appreciate your support as we work together in partnership to educate our amazing young people as they will go on to be the leaders and custodians of our future.
