Year 5 Outdoor Education - kunanyi/ Mount Wellington Bushwalk

Friday 15 September

On Friday 15 September Year 5M students will be going on an Outdoor Education bushwalk on kunanyi/Mount Wellington. Students will be required to wear warm sensible free dress clothing - long pants (no jeans), long t-shirt/thermal, jumper, warm socks and appropriate bushwalking shoes. Students will also need to pack their day bag with a rain jacket, spare warm jacket/fleece, beanie, spare socks, plenty of food for lunch and snacks, a big drink bottle of water, and any personal medication.

Year 2 Excursion to Mornington and South Hobart

Tuesday 19 September

On Tuesday 19 September Year 2 students will be undertaking a Managing Waste Materials Excursion, visiting the Mornington Park Waste Transfer Station, the Cascade Gardens and the South Hobart Resource Work Cooperative. This is part of our inquiry into Sharing the Planet. The purpose of this visit is to familiarise the children with the various materials the resource centres recycle, the impact of our use of materials on the environment, and our responsibility when disposing of waste. We will leave the school by bus at 9.00am and return to school at 1.45pm. As part of this experience, students may bring two dollars to spend at the South Hobart Tip Shop. The item/s that they buy with this money will be used in an upcycling project back in the classroom. We are hoping that the students’ interest in refuse, reduce, reuse and recycle/upcycle will be provoked. We would love families to be part of this experience; however, we are only permitted to take two additional adults for each class. If you are interested in joining us for the excursion, could you please email the classroom teacher.

On these days we will be leaving school on the bus at 9.30am and will return after 2.00pm. In preparation for this, please make sure that your child has in their school bags:

  • Rubbish-free lunch

  • Hat or beanie depending on the weather and UV forecast
  • Spare clothes (including socks and underwear)

Please also ensure that your child arrives at school no later than 9.15am so that we can leave on time. Please contact Michelle or Heidi if you have any questions.

Year 6 Exhibition - Tuesday 26 to Thursday 28 September

Opening Tuesday 26 September, 5.30 - 7.00pm in The Farrall Centre.

The PYP Exhibition is a significant event in an IB school. As a culminating experience for Year 6 students, it is an opportunity for students to independently exhibit the attributes of the learner profile and identify, investigate and offer solutions to real-life issues and opportunities. It is also an opportunity to demonstrate the essential elements of the Primary Years Program: knowledge, concepts, skills, action and agency.

The big idea for 2023 is “Our Voices: Our Future.” The Exhibition is an opportunity for students to share their new knowledge, express their understanding and continue their inquiry by discussing concepts and ideas with members of our community. Each student has contributed to the curation of an area dedicated to one of the IB Primary Year Program's Transdisciplinary Themes. They have each created a work of art that is designed to provoke conversation. Visitors are invited to view the work and use it as a stimulus for deep and rich conversations with the students.

Families and other community members are invited to attend Exhibition 2023 on Tuesday, 26 September from 5.30-7.00pm in The Farrall Centre.

Absentees

If your child will be absent from school for the day please advise the Morris Office (phone: 6210 2228, or email: morrisadmin@friends.tas.edu.au ) and the classroom teacher before 9.00am. We appreciate your support in this process.
