Indonesian Day

These photos were taken on the Indonesian day (18th of Oct 2023), as we celebrated the wonderful culture and language of Indonesia. All students spent the day taking part in a range of activities- Indonesian puppet making, sack race, balloon race, spoon and egg race and making Klepon (Indonesian dessert)

Here is the KLEPON recipe!

KLEPON (Indonesian mochi with palm sugar filling)

Ingredients

  1. 175 ml hot water
  2. Coconut milk (optional)
  3. 1 ⅔ cup glutinous rice flour
  4. Pandan essence (a few drops, just enough to make it green)
  5. ¼ teaspoon of salt
  6. Palm sugar (for filling) about 2 blocks
  7. Shredded coconut (enough to cover the klepon) – put in a separate bowl/plate to cover the klepon

Utensils :

2 mixing bowls, saucepan , big spoon with holes/strainer (to pick up klepon) spoon, plates

Method:

  1. In a mixing bowl, MIX ingredients 1, 2 and 3 bit by bit, once combined and while it’s warm, mix by hand
  2. Make ROUND balls, and FILL each ball with palm sugar, and round them again by hand
  3. BOIL the water, and slowly DROP each ball into the hot boiling water
  4. Once they FLOAT, slowly pick them up, DRAIN the hot moist klepon (make sure there’s no hot water in the spoon) and transfer them onto a bowl/plate which is filled with steamed shredded coconut mixed with salt
  5. Make sure each klepon is thoroughly covered by shredded coconut. Use a SPOON to gently cover the klepon.
  6. Eat it as a WHOLE klepon! And enjoy the lovely texture of klepon and the burst of palm sugar filling in your mouth

SELAMAT MAKAN!
