Farewell to our Year 12s

Today, we reached another milestone in the 2023 academic year. After 13 years of schooling the Year 12 students farewelled the school, with many smiles and a few tears.

The Year 12’s final day started with the parade of colourful costumes and themes, including Velma and Daphne from Scooby-doo, Willy Wonka, Veruca Salt and Violet Beauregarde, a pack of Pokemons, Kath and Kim, a mob of Hogwarts wizards, the Lorax and the Once-ler, some Jedi knights, twin Magic Mikes and the cast of Frozen.

The final TA session saw many smiles and tears as memories were shared in a moving and reflective liturgy, led by Ms Morrisey.

The entire school shared in the students’ final assembly, with a farewell video from the Year 12s providing a combination of old and new memories, put together by the students, showing how far they have come from their beginnings as students through to their final day. There were a lot of laughs and exclamations as the College community saw the originals and recreations of childhood photos; for some, the transformations were amazing; for others, it was as if the years had barely passed.

After a final farewell, the Year 12s exited the BC for the last time, with the best wishes of the entire St Augustine’s community going with them. The day was a credit to the students and a memorable celebration of the 2023 Year 12's time at St Augustine’s.

As the students now turn their attention to their final exams, or the worlds of work or study beyond their time at the College, we would like to take this opportunity to wish our Graduating Class of 2023 all the best as they pursue their chosen pathways. In the past few years, this group of students have lived through some ‘interesting times’ but, with determination and spirit, and the support of their families, friends and the St Augustine’s College community, the young adults of the class of 2023 have shown that they are ready to take on the next stages of their journeys. May you make your way through the world with the spirits of St Brigid and St Augustine guiding you as you live a true life of strength and kindliness.

Agriculture/Horticulture: Agri Food Summit excursion

On Tuesday 10th October, ten students ranging from Years 9-12 made their way up to Wagga Wagga for a two day trip to view the Digital Agri Food Summit held at Charles Sturt University.

On day one, the students visited Warakirri Cropping, Orange Park, six kilometres west of Lockhart NSW. We listened to Tom, the Manager of Warakirri, and D’arcy, who is a 12 month graduate on placement at Warakirri. They explained to us the values of the farm and the technology that has assisted them in various ways. One of the technologies that they use is a satellite that provides them with the data to know what parts of the crops needed more support (eg. fertiliser, lime and gypsum).

After we settled in at our cabins at The Big 4, we picked up pizza for dinner on the way to Wagga Wagga Botanical Gardens. Later that night the students attended Wagga Bowling, where we played two rounds and thoroughly enjoyed both.

After an early start, students packed up their cabins and headed off to the University where we sat through a three and a half hour seminar, hearing from people located in places such as Canada and Kenya about the technology in agriculture and the financial side of agribusiness, with a break for morning tea in between.

After lunch, to finish off the day, students were taken on a tour of the farm where we heard about Guss, an automatic orchard sprayer and how Charles Sturt University keeps tabs on their crops with different varieties of technology. After the tour, students returned home.

A big thank you to Stephanie Challis who organised two days filled with fun and a thank you to Peter Fawcett who came on this trip with us.
