HOCKEY

Division 4 Foxes played Dunkeld in the grand final on Saturday afternoon. It was an excellent match, with play ebbing and flowing from one goal to the other. Foxes played a running game, with Lachlan Reid dominating the midfield. Foxes took an early 1-0 lead with Camilla Edgar returning from injury to score on the post. Dunkeld hit back quickly with a short corner and the match looked like heading to penalties. Dunkeld netted a further three times in the final quarter. Foxes had a fabulous season and deserved their place in the decider.

Congratulations to Lachlan Reid who took out the Glenelg Region Hockey Association Best and Fairest for Division 4.

The College Girls’ Hockey 7s team travelled to Melbourne on Thursday, 7 September for the State Hockey 7s Championships. The top eight teams in Victoria are placed in two pools of four. Three pool games are played and the top teams in each pool play the Grand Final. College played Cathedral College Wangaratta in their first match. The girls recorded an impressive 6-0 win. Their second match was against St Mary’s Whittlesea. The girls recorded a ‘come from behind’ 2-1 win. Their final pool match was against Bentleigh West. The winner would advance for the state final. The girls went out to a 3-1 lead with 10 minutes to play. Bentleigh West levelled the scores at 3-3 and progressed to the final with a slightly better goal difference. They went on to win the state title with a 2-1 win over Williamstown in the final.

The College team were amazing and played some fabulous team hockey. Thank you to coach Heath Templeton for all his efforts in getting the team to Melbourne and supporting the girls. Thank you also to the parents who travelled to support the team.
