Message from Bev and Megan

We have been graced with a wonderful violin performance by Tutu in our offices on Wednesday, he performed ‘Czardas’ by V. Monte without music, his goal is to be able to play the entire piece by heart. Tutu has now agreed to play at the Year 6 Graduation. Well done and all the very best for your upcoming Grade 6 music exam. We welcome all our students to share their passions and what they are striving to achieve. Thank you Tutu.

At BBPS we have a number of initiatives centred around student engagement – if students feel connected and inspired they are more open to learning and challenging themselves. 

Our Year 6s are busy implementing their leadership roles and action plans. Please see below for an update from our radio captains on their last and very exciting radio show for 2023 and some exciting opportunities that our Year 5 and Year 6 students have been experiencing.

Our BBPS Radio Captains, Tash, Tess and Thomas had their final show of the year this week, where they had the exciting opportunity to interview  Chris Goulding, Captain of the Melbourne United team and former captain of the Australian Basketball Team. We hope you all had the chance to tune into Southern 88.3 to hear how it all went. 

Last week we had a team of 15 BBPS girls form years 5 and 6 who represented our school beautifully in the Opal Little Saints Cup. They competed in the girls AFL 12's tournament held at the Linton Street Training Ground, RSEA Park Moorabbin. The girls won four matches and lost the grand final. Shout out to some super starts of the day, Madi, Phoebe and Bailey. We are proud of all our girls who made up the team. GO BBPS! 

Our Year 6 Graduation preparations are well underway. Students have been participating in weekly circus training sessions to get ready for their performances on the night. They have also been creating their memoirs and many of our students are starting their transition days at their different high schools for next year. Its all happening and the transition with Ms Beales and Shanti leading the year 6 team has been seamless.

All of the staff would like to thank our wonderful parents for helping us celebrate World Teachers Day with a beautiful morning tea and for spoiling us all! Your lovely treats were very much appreciated and as always we thank you for your ongoing support and trust in what we do, BBPS really is a special place to work. 

Your acknowledgement and thanks means a lot. 

This matters because the importance of the work of teachers has never been more apparent. It was teachers who helped students understand the recent referendum and it is teachers who are supporting students as they respond to the outcome of that referendum. It is teachers who are answering the most complex questions students will be asking about the deeply disturbing images from the conflict in Israel and Gaza and the reasons for the conflict.

And, at a more individual level, it is teachers who are going above and beyond supporting VCE students undertaking their final exams and navigating the end of their school days  and their entry into the world beyond school.

These are the examples of the myriad ways in which teachers support the learning and wellbeing of more than a million students in Victorian schools everyday.

It is teachers who ensure students have the literacy, numeracy and digital skills they will need to be participatory citizens, teachers who enable students with disability to be fully included in all that schools offer and teachers that provide the opportunity for students to pursue their interests in dance, drama, music, art, sport, debating and so much else.

Teachers both provide the opportunity for students to win medals in international science competitions and arrange for uniforms from State Schools' Relief to be provided.

They support a student to rehearse over and over again before a concert at the Arts centre and provide a listening ear for a student who has noone else to turn to.

Victorian students, and the Victorian community owe our teachers a great deal, and on behalf of them all, this is a huge thank you to every teacher in our state for the work you do in every school, every day.

BBPS Art Show 'Bright World of Art'

Congratulations to all the BBPS students for all of the creativity and pride they poured into the art work throughout the year. Thank you to Georgie and Shanti for creating such a stunning and successful Art Show, we cannot thank them enough for their hard work and dedication to our kids and their efforts, we are so lucky to have teachers like them. 

Thanks to all our grandparents who came down to have lunch with their grandchildren and check out the fabulous Art show. We loved having you all visiting our school and also showing off our beautiful library to you all.

Thank you again to the staff and parents who helped with the referendum sausage sizzle, raising approximately $700.00 and also for volunteering their time for the Art show sausage sizzle which raised approximately $900.00. This money will go towards upgrading our outdoor learning spaces. The community spirit at BBPS has been on full display in the last couple of weeks. What a brilliant and supportive PA we have, if you are able to help out in any way with our Christmas Carnival, please see Talo or any of our wonderful parents on the PA. 

Our students are thrilled for our Halloween Disco tomorrow – thank you in advance to the organising team and all the parents who are helping with this event. Parents are welcome to stay during the disco, feel free to help out! We do however ask that all props such as swords and weapons be kept at home this year to ensure the disco is a fun and safe place for everyone. 

Road Safety

A reminder also that students (and adults) are to cross the road at the designated crossings on Exon and Windermere Oval. During pick up time, our surrounding roads are busy - crossing at the Two Minute Zone is not a safe option.
