Things to know

We the community members of Launching Place Primary School acknowledge the traditional owners, the Kulin nations, of the land on which we learn and play.

We pay respects to the Aboriginal Elders, past and present, who are our teachers.

We thank them for taking care of children and country for countless generations.

Welcome Back to Term Four

I hope you have had a terrific September school holiday break and are keen for the return of school. I wanted to preview some of the great things that will be going on in term 4 in preparation for a busy 12 weeks.

Many exciting things will be happening during this term such as Swimming , Alpha Show, Sports, senior school to the Zoo, Cup day, Graduation & Christmas Concerts and many more.

Community Pantry

Launching Place Primary School have set up  a Community Pantry.

The pantry is located in a room off the foyer and will be here to support our community.

You can either donate goods or take any items that you may need. People can help themselves to a range of products including breakfast staples such as long life milk, cereals, soups, rice dishes and fruit.  All families will need to do is bring their own bags.

We ask that you leave the space tidy and be respectful of others.

Please feel free to let other members of the community know that we are here to support them.

Miss Nyman - Masters in Inclusion

In June 2022, Miss Nyman began a 2 year Master of Inclusive Education course with Monash University.   She was keen to let us all know how she is progressing:

I have loved learning the content and having opportunities to explore this important area of education. By the end of the course I will be able to –

- demonstrate an understanding of the philosophical views and legislative structures, both nationally and internationally, which drive inclusive education

- accommodate students with additional learning needs within regular classrooms

- establish learning environments which value diversity, recognise difference and encourage student engagement

- apply inclusive practices, including supportive and differentiated strategies, to enable student progress

- identify and implement interventions that facilitate and support inclusive education

- demonstrate critical thinking through engagement with current research in the field'

Part of this course involves 20 days of professional placement – which began in the last week of Term 3.  Most of my placement days will be working onsite at LPPS, though I am also required to spend time at other schools.  Next week I will be at Mullum Primary School in Ringwood.  I am looking forward to learning about their inclusive practices and sharing my knowledge upon my return to Launch.

I am so grateful that our school and staff has supported me through my studies, and that Heather Taylor is able to teach The Arts in my absence.                                  - Candice Nyman

Best of luck Candice!

Lunch Orders Days

Lunch order day is every Thursdays and our students really look forward to their lunch orders. Please ensure you have put your child's name and grade and the correct monies in the bag. Lunch orders are not made at school, they are sourced out to upper Yarra Secondary College. Payments for your child lunch need to be put in the bag on the day and Lunch orders are collected by 9.10am from Upper Yarra Secondary College.

Transition

Across the school we’ll conduct a transition program for 2024. This will involve a ‘step up’ day for all students, as well as a series of transition sessions for our incoming Foundation students.

Bikes/Scooters

Children who ride bikes or scooters to school MUST wear an approved safety helmet.  Foundation to grade two students must be accompanied by a responsible adult to and from school if they wish to ride to school, as their peripheral vision and reflexes are generally not developed enough for them to deal safely with traffic without supervision.  Bikes must not be ridden in the school grounds at any time, instead please encourage children to pop off their bike and walk it through the yard.

End of Term Dismissal Times

Dismissal time on the last day of terms 1, 2 and 3 is 2:30pm.

Dismissal on the final day of the school year is 1:30pm.
