Year 5/6

Confirmation candidates 2025 In preparation for this Sacrament, our Confirmation candidates have been learning about their chosen ‘patron saint’. This Catholic practice helps to provide a spiritual role model that students can consider as they grow in their own personal faith journey. These thoughts are captured by each student below:
Hannah: St Brendan of Clonfert (Ireland) “St Brendan was an explorer and voyager. Hannah shares his desire to travel the world! St Brendan sailed crossed the Atlantic to discover the Isle of the Blessed near Ireland”.
Alastair: St Nicholas of Turkey “St Nicholas was generous and kind to poor children. I like Christmas time and gift giving. St Nicholas inspired the story of Santa Claus”.
Jufuor: St Patrick of Ireland “St Patrick brought Christianity to Ireland. He came to Ireland as a slave to look after sheep and would talk to God. The shamrock was his way of explaining the Father, Son and Holy Spirit”.
Miles: St Francis of Assisi “St Francis is the patron saint of animals and nature. He preached to the birds and animals and called them his friends. St Francis is from Assisi Italy, and my grandmother is from Italy”.
Indi: St Francis of Assisi “Frances is my grandmother’s name so it is special to me. St Francis loved animals just like me and built churches all over Ireland”.
Emily: St Elizabeth of Portugal “St Elizabeth was compassionate and caring. As a child she would secretly sneak food to the poor. She set up hospitals and schools and visited the sick and the poor.”
Annabelle: St Hildegard of Germany “St Hildegard cared for the environment and people. She was very intelligent, a writer, poet, philosopher, artist and musical genius. I find her life very interesting!”
Judd: St Sebastian of “St Sebastian is the patron saint of athletes, archers and soldiers. I love my sport, particularly footy and cricket. St Sebastian was known for his courage, and an officer of the Roman Army. He would secretly help Christians who were jailed.”
Nyanbol: St Elizabeth of Hungary “St Elizabeth is the patron saint of bakers and I love to cook! She built a hospital for the sick and would cook for them”.
