This term in Inquiry, students have been exploring the topic question: “How can design and technology ensure our survival and sustainability?” To start the unit, they worked together to unpack these ideas and talked about the many ways humans rely on technology to solve real-world problems. The class had some great discussions and presented their ideas about how technology shapes the way we live and care for our planet.

In Writing, students have been practicing how to write persuasive applications for leadership roles like School Captain and House Captain. They were presented with a rubric and then focused on using formal language, persuasive techniques to show why they would make strong leaders. It’s been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they think about their strengths and what they contribute to our school community.

In Mathematics, students have been working with shapes to form tessellations, exploring how geometric patterns can fit together without gaps or overlaps. They investigated different types of tessellations, created their own repeating designs and discussed where these patterns appear in everyday life such as the brickworks.

It’s been a busy and exciting start to the term, full of curiosity, creativity and critical thinking for 5D!
