Gospel Reading: Luke 17:11–19

On the way to Jerusalem Jesus was going through the region between Samaria and Galilee. As he entered a village, ten lepers approached him. Keeping their distance, they called out, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” When he saw them, he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were made clean. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice. He prostrated himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him. And he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus asked, “Were not ten made clean? But the other nine, where are they? Was none of them found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” Then he said to him, “Get up and go on your way; your faith has made you well.”

Summary

In this Gospel, Jesus heals ten people suffering from leprosy after they call out for mercy. While all are healed, only one—a Samaritan, seen as an outsider—returns to thank Jesus and give glory to God. Jesus praises the man’s gratitude and faith, showing that true healing is not just physical but also spiritual. This story reminds us that gratitude opens our hearts to God’s presence and deepens our faith.

Reflection Question

  1. When has God blessed me in ways that I may have forgotten to give thanks for?
  2. How can I show more gratitude in my daily life to reflect my faith?

Prayer

Loving Jesus,

You hear our cries and bring healing to our lives in ways we sometimes overlook.

Teach me to be like the thankful Samaritan—quick to praise You, slow to forget Your goodness.

Help me to see Your blessings in every moment and to respond with a heart full of gratitude.

May my faith and thankfulness bring me closer to You each day.

Amen.
