Physical Education

Hi Families,

It has been an exciting few weeks in PE.

Prep students have been exploring different ways to kick a round ball. During this unit, students have completed activities involving kicking into open an space, to a partner and at a target. They have also been practicing trapping the ball so it comes to a complete stop.

Grade 1 and 2s have been participating in a Gymnastics clinic with Glitz Gymnastics. Students have had a blast learning to follow, repeat and alter movement sequences in response to rhythm and music. In their sequence, a forward roll was incorporated as they focused on transferring weight, in a forward direction, from their feet to the back of their shoulders, maintaining a tuck position.

Grade 3/4s have been participating in a Striking and Fielding unit, specifically on Tee-ball. Students have been discovering the benefits of the correct stance at the Tee and practised making the decision of which fielder to throw to when trying to get the batters out.

Grade 5/6 have also been participating in a Striking and Fielding unit. Students have been focusing on improving their skills and tactical thinking in cricket and T-Ball style games. They have been exploring small-sided games, in which students have identified key strategies, such as where to hit the ball to score maximum runs, how to field the ball to minimise the batter’s running time and where to throw the ball to get the batters out, to improve team performance.

A huge congratulations to Harley C and Ella M on competing at the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Athletics Championships last week. It is a massive achievement to get to this level, and they represented Rolling Hills astonishingly and we are very proud. Well done!

I hope you have a lovely weekend!
