From the Year 2 Classroom

Welcome back to the beginning of Term 4!!!
The last term of Year 2 and we are very sad about it. The children have settled in very well, back to routine. It's always hard coming back after a two week break, beautiful weather and the start of daylight savings.
We know that Term 4 brings a whole different level of business, however over the first couple of weeks we are able to ease back into a few normal weeks of learning.
In Literacy we are continuing to learn reading skills. Over the next two weeks we look at the skill of monitoring. Making sure we know and understand what we are reading. It is important to learn to stop, check, revise and infer the definitions of unknown words using clues. At home, it can be beneficial that the children write down any words that they don't understand and try to infer what these mean. They can check with parents to see if they are correct.
We are also starting a unit on poetry. Reading and writing different types of poems. The children will be using their imaginative flair to
write one word, two-word, simile, haiku and cinquain poems.
In Maths it will be our first look on fractions. The focus will be on learning how to identify and create halves, quarters and eights.
In Religion the first unit we are focussing on is 'Our Call to Mission'- In this unit there is a big focus on how we care and are kind to others. How we can fill the buckets of others and how we can give back to our friends, family, school and community through actions.
Our Inquiry unit is all about states of matter. The children will learn through experiments on liquids, gasses and solids. We are sure they will have lots of fun with this.
A few reminders:
Home readers were sent out yesterday. Thank you very much to the people that return these each week. It would be great to finish strong and try to have everybody return these each Friday.
Hats are to be worn everyday this term. It is very important that the children have their hats named clearly. Hats can stay at school in lockers to try and avoid them being left at home.
Please remember to contact your child's teacher if you have any issues or concerns.
We are looking forward to a fun filled, busy, enjoyable and exhausting last term.
Regards,
Year Two Team
