Building Empathy: The Heart of Connection
Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another person — to put yourself in their shoes and truly see the world from their perspective. It’s one of the key pillars of The Resilience Project because it strengthens relationships, builds compassion, and creates a sense of belonging in our homes, schools, and workplaces.
When we practice empathy, we don’t just make others feel seen — we also boost our own wellbeing. Research shows that empathetic people experience lower stress, greater happiness, and stronger social connections.
So, how can we build empathy every day?
Notice similarities. Remember, everyone you meet is fighting a battle you can’t always see.
Empathy reminds us that we’re all human — imperfect, emotional, and deserving of care. When we lead with empathy, we build stronger, kinder communities and a more resilient world.
Here is a question you can use at home with your family, in the car ride on the way home, around the dinner table or as you are getting ready for bed.
So, ask your kids!
