What's happening in Italian?
Weeks 7 and 8
Our Prep students have been learning to identify and name basic colours in Italian. They have enjoyed participating in activities and games to practise recognising and using colour words. A highlight has been playing games that test their colour knowledge in a fun and interactive way.
Our Year 1 and 2 students have been learning about food, with a special focus on ‘la pizza’. They discovered that pizza originated in Naples and explored a variety of Italian food words. Students shared their favourite pizza toppings and learnt how to say them in Italian. They then brought their ideas to life by designing their own pizzas by cutting and pasting toppings onto their pizza bases. The results were creative and looked delicious!
Our Year 3 and 4 students have been exploring some of Italy’s most iconic landmarks. They discovered that the Colosseum, located in Rome, is an ancient amphitheatre that once held over 50,000 spectators who came to watch gladiator battles and public events. Meanwhile, the Leaning Tower of Pisa is world-famous for its tilt, caused by unstable ground during construction in the 12th century. Students enjoyed sharing their findings with the class and learning fun facts about Italy’s rich history and culture through these fascinating monuments.
Our Year 5 and 6 students have been dreaming big as they created their very own Italian Bucket Lists of places they would love to visit and experiences they hope to have in Italy. Popular destinations included skiing down the snow-covered slopes of the majestic Italian Alps, gliding through the canals of Venice in a traditional gondola, and standing in awe before Michelangelo’s iconic Statue of David at the famous Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence. Many students were drawn to the sparkling turquoise waters and white sandy beaches of Sardinia, while others hoped to see the breathtaking cliffside views along the stunning Amalfi Coast. This activity sparked curiosity and excitement about Italian culture, geography, and history, inspiring students to explore the beauty and diversity of Italy.
Alla prossima volta,
Saluti
