Faith and Life

Purpose and Structure

This course is based on the VCE study ‘Religion and Society Unit 1’ and is a core subject which runs for a single 75-minute session each week for the full year. The subject is structured in a similar way to the Year 10 Good Life course, however, the course content is linked to ‘Religion and Society Unit 1’.

This study helps students to explore and understand the place of religion and Christian faith in society and how religion shapes our identity, values and decision making. Students compare various religious traditions, examine various ethical frameworks and clarify how their own faith contributes to their life, values and choices. Students develop a critical awareness of the influences which shape their belief and values and learn how to bring a Biblical perspective to bear on various issues.

• Describe a variety of ways in which particular religious communities express their collective identity

• Analyse issues associated with the relationship between religious communities and the society in which they exist

• Recognise and discuss the interplay between a person's individual identity and their religious community.
